One of my greatest pet peeves in Singapore is the audacity of "charity volunteers" camping outside MRT stations asking for donations - some may be legitimate but chances are 90% of your money doesn't even make it to whom they're "raising money" for
I got stopped by one such “charity” organisation early on my way home from the office
If you thought Financial Advisors were pushy, you've not met one of these charity "peddlers"
I initially told her that I already donate a portion of my income to charity
She had the gall to ask me:
1) Which charity?
2) How much?
3) Did I know that she's raising awareness for an old folks focused charity?
Like come on man
If you weren't so pushy I might actually have donated but if Singapore has taught me anything, it's that most Singaporeans aren't that altruistic
And if you really were, you could be volunteering your time to help out those people in need instead
Stop giving bad rep to charities, please
While it's on my mind, here's a little throwback to when I sent Gackt the Malice Mizer version of the hyper pigmentation meme and he actually replied.😭
Being Chinese learning Japanese is so funny cuz I keep reading kanji as hanzi
So instead of reading 私わ学生ですas
“watashi wa gakusei desu”
I read it as
“watashi wa ✨XUÉ SHĒNG ✨ desu”
This case is honestly pretty messed up.
A 16-year-old girl working at a facility for people with disabilities tried to stop a resident from biting another resident. For that, she got arrested on assault charges and was held in detention for 18 days.
During that time, she was reportedly pressured to confess, even though she kept saying she didn’t do anything wrong.
After she was finally released without charges, she developed severe PTSD and an eating disorder. Her weight dropped dramatically, and she ended up dying from malnutrition several months later.
She was literally just trying to protect someone, and somehow she became the one who got treated like a criminal. The more you hear about it, the more it feels completely backwards.
