Rip it up! TWU Local 1 President Wayne Cole and members in Akron, Ohio, show what they think of a three-year contract proposal with no raises for two years – and a provision forcing members to pay $2,000 more for family healthcare. A possible strike looms. @TwuSamuelsen@yourMETRObus@ohioaflcio@AkronOhioMayor

“This is a victory for riders. An overwhelming majority want to keep @TWULocal100 Conductors on their trains. They don’t want to see subway staffing and their safety reduced.
This bill addresses concerns Gov. Hochul raised when she vetoed an earlier version in the last legislative session. It’s time for the governor to stand with working people who rely on the subway instead of supporting beancounting bureaucrats and reckless automators.” @TwuSamuelsen
In today’s @NYDailyNews:
New York @GovKathyHochul’s anti-union streak continues.
Hochul claims she “grew up in a union family” yet she keeps failing union families across the state.
Democrats are supposed to support workers— not repress them.
@transportworker@TwuSamuelsen
.@GovKathyHochul is anti-trade union and there is no masquerading it. When she SCABBED the NYC Nurses Strike and then did her cut-throat best to break STRIKING @LIRR workers, it signaled to any neutral onlookers that she’s an ANTI-TRADE UNION Governor for THE BOSSES. Now she’s demanding destructive concessions in contract bargaining with @TWULocal100 NYC Transit Workers. ZERO DEMOCRATS are calling out her behavior . ABSOLUTE SILENCE. If she was a REPUBLICAN, NY’s @TheDemocrats would public chastising Hochul , and rightfully so. When DEMOCRATS fail to call balls and strikes on Hochul’s anti-worker actions, the whole party suffers. @CentralLaborNYC@NYSAFLCIO
TWU Local 525 Firefighters at the Space Force Station are waiting to be deployed to start battling fires in the woods and brush surrounding the launch pad to stop it from spreading further. The pad is still too dangerous to send in crews there. This is an extremely hazardous situation requiring a highly trained and well coordinated response. @TwuSamuelsen
Akron Metro transit workers in TWU Local 1 took their anger at going nearly three years without a raise to the Akron Metro Board at its meeting this morning at the Pfaf Transit Center, and to @yourmetrobus riders via media interviews. TWU International has provided strike training and other support for Bus Operators, Vehicle Maintenance Workers, and Clerical Workers who deserve, and are demanding, respect and a fair contract. @TwuSamuelsen
. @twu320 workers making sure bikeshare is maintained and available. 💪 @transportworker is the biggest bikeshare union in the county, enabling workers to secure fair wages for a transportation mode and connection to transit that they believe in. @TwuSamuelsen
@Waymo tells us "safety is our top priority" - then you should pull your robotaxis from roads until they stop driving into flood waters or lawlessly driving by stopped school buses - oh, and maybe public officials should stop doling out driving authority

Great news for ALL workers @GoBrightline, where the TWU represents Onboard Attendants and Lead Attendants. The federal Railroad Retirement Board has determined all Brightline workers are covered by RRB’s retirement, sick and unemployment plans, which are far more beneficial than what Brightline and the state of Florida provide. @twusamuelsen Read the full decision here: https://t.co/xjs4BrbzyY,

On May 21, 1941 the TWU held a huge rally at Madison Square Garden that showed the impressive strength of union power and solidarity.
The rally was a response to Mayor LaGuardia’s May 1, 1940 announcement that New York would take over the IRT and BMT to join the city-run IND, with little consideration for transit workers.
In March of that year Mike Quill met with Mayor LaGuardia to discuss bargaining rights. LaGuardia stated that while wages and benefits would be preserved there wasn’t a guarantee that layoffs wouldn’t occur or that the mayor would work with the union to ensure transit workers’ other needs would be taken into consideration.
Over 5,000 members of TWU and its Ladies’ Auxiliary marched from the union hall to the Garden. The rally program was led by Phil Murray, an American labor leader, and members from the labor movement such as the national CIO and the NYC CIO Council spoke.
As a result of the rally and relentless fighting, the TWU gained favorable public support and the final agreement stated the previously agreed upon contract would stand for all members, firmly establishing the TWU as the main representative of workers from New York City Transit.
Furthermore, the Grievance Board would have the power to make decisions on all matters affecting labor between the Board of Transportation and the TWU.

We couldn’t agree more with you regarding your observation that @GovKathyHochul is more anti-trade union than some Republicans . She scabbed the recent NYC Nurses strike , she fired 3000 NYS Correction Officers who struck over unsafe prison conditions and replaced them with the National Guard, and now she tried to break striking @LIRR workers. Other @TheDemocrats should be drawing the same obvious conclusions as you. @transportworker@NYSAFLCIO@CentralLaborNYC@LIFEDofLABOR
. @NYCComptroller Mark Levine with TWU International Pres. John Samuelsen, @TWULocal100 Pres. John Chiarello, and top L100 officers at the TWU International Executive Council Meeting in NYC. Local 100 contract negotiations are underway and the @transportworker is ready to do whatever necessary to secure a fair contract for @mta bus and subway workers. @twusamuelsen
. @NYSComptroller Tom DiNapoli kicking off the Transport Workers Union International Executive Council Meeting in Manhattan, thanking TWU officers for fighting for working families, noting his father was a phone company lineman and union Shop Steward. “Any time I can stand with labor at any time, it really is my way of saying thank you” to the labor movement for delivering economic security to families like his. @TwuSamuelsen@CentralLaborNYC
