The Trump admin has been lifting a wide range of targeted sanctions without real explanation.
@AmandaLStrayer and I broke down the quiet rehabilitation of corrupt and well-connected figures happening behind the opaque procedures of sanctions relief: https://t.co/mrOiRBQRgJ
Treasury also referred to pulling down certain sanctions programs "that have not delivered measurable outcomes or no longer support U.S. national security priorities."
That is worth monitoring, given the disappearance of anti-corruption and other things as such a priority.
“The fight against corruption is imperative for protecting the integrity of markets and defending human rights, both at home and abroad.”

"According to investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, Sassou Nguesso allegedly used sham companies to embezzle public money intended for the building of hospitals, then used that money to purchase an apartment in NY City."

With @sassoufit_co and @TheRWCHR, we’re proud today to recommend targeted sanctions against two members of Congo-Brazzaville’s ruling Sassou Nguesso family for allegedly embezzling public funds and laundering them into U.S. real estate.

The latest UK and EU sanctions on 🇸🇩 Sudanese commanders, financiers, and mercenary recruiters are a welcome step in the right direction. By acting on networks previously exposed by The Sentry, including transnational mercenary pipelines backing the #RSF, governments are finally starting to target the machinery behind the war, not just the most visible leaders.
But what about Emirati businessman Mohamed Hamdan Al Zaabi, who allegedly partnered with the Colombian to recruit the mercenaries? Why isn't he being investigated and, if appropriate, sanctioned?

Human Rights First strongly supports UN Special Rapporteur Satterthwaite’s call for the U.S. government to lift its sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court and end its attack on those seeking justice for atrocities. Thank you for your leadership @SRjudgeslawyers.

"I believe that it is my duty, both to those who remain in prison and to the entire Belarusian society, to continue my work".

This International Human Rights Day, I’m thinking of innocent people sitting in jail cells around the world like Jimmy Lai, Dang Dinh Bach, Selahattin Demirtas, Gubad Ibadoghlu and Idris Khattak. Authoritarian governments are jailing people for thought crimes. Democratic governments and movements must fight to get them out.
Very good panel at the UK Parliament’s All Party Parliamentary Group on Hostage Affairs today to discuss the dramatic need for reform of how the UK deals with state sponsored hostage taking. Or more appropriately how the UK DOESN’T deal with it.
🇺🇬This Independence day is for all the #LGBTIQ Ugandans who have had no choice but to invent ourselves out of thin air,🇺🇬🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️May we always strive for freedom from discrimination and hate. The Ugandan gov't must #RepealAHA23#UgandaAt63 Also, happy #InternationalLesbianDay(8th/10)
New evidence shows Alexei Navalny was poisoned and denied medical help in prison before his death. Authorities hide the truth, but two independent laboratories have already confirmed poisoning. Free Russia Foundation stands with the politician’s family and demand full disclosure.
After US sanctions against judges and deputy prosecutors of the International Criminal Court, new sanctions recently imposed by the US against 3 Palestinian human rights organizations, @alhaq_org, @AlMezanCenter, @pchrgaza, for their collaboration with the ICC is deeply alarming. Civil society must be able to play its crucial role in democracies. Undermining it and the Court weakens our collective ability to combat impunity and to strive for the respect of international law.

Front Line Defenders is deeply concerned about the US government sanctions imposed on prominent Palestinian human rights organisations; Al-Haq, Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR).
We call on US authorities to immediately lift the sanctions imposed on the three human rights organisations, and ensure that HRDs can carry our their legitimate human rights work without reprisals.
