2016: “Display advertising will become obsolete: fewer flashing ‘punch-the-monkey’ images trying to grab your attention incidentally on a page of content, and more data APIs and ‘preference feeds’.
There will be a lot more software AI “bots” which will probably have a lower tolerance for deceptive practices and will learn based on the ongoing feedback we provide to them (and will learn some fractional amount based on what other users are telling their software ‘cousins’ filling similar roles).”
I like advertising generally
But if you spend $2000 on a TV, you can piss right off if you want to make another $3 a year serving ads to me on my homepage
Absolutely moronic .
So many companies want to double dip these days. I’m the customer
Betrayal! Deception! Treachery!
Those ads are funny
(and the former meta ads executive who made them is good at his job. he had a lot of practice)
Here’s what’s not funny:
Calling “ads” a betrayal when your business model is selling paid subscriptions to companies.
ChatGPT has more free users in Texas than Claude (trademark) has globally.
Real betrayal isn’t ads. It’s control.
Anthropic thinks powerful AI should be tightly controlled in small rooms in San Francisco and Davos.
That its too DANGEROUS for you.
That the future should be built somewhere else, by someone who is smarter
We don’t believe that.
Every week, 300M+ people use ChatGPT to learn how to do something.
More than half of U.S. users say it helped them do something they once thought was impossible.
Free access creates agency.
When people have the tools, THEY decide what to build.
You can just build things.
Has your phone ever shown you an ad for something you only whispered...?
Google agrees to fork over $68MN to settle claims that its Assistant was SECRETLY recording your convos WITHOUT 'Hey Google' & feeding them straight to targeted ads — The Hill
No wrongdoing admitted though
I’m sorry. What?!?? Massively respected investigative journalist from Reuters reporting on internal docs that north of $10 Billion of annual advertising spend on Facebook and Instagram is fraud and their stock barely trails the market today? This is nuts. And they know it? 1/2
RIP Ad Blockers! 😳
Apple’s new “Distraction Control” feature in iOS 18 is amazing!
It allows you to block elements you don’t want to see in Safari & even adds a slick animation.
Ironically putting the label next to the button I have to press to block the ad means I don’t have to scroll past the ad before I block it, so if others are also blocking all ads like I am it might reduce their view stats.
@levie The user experience declines when ads are not personalized. Every study we ever ran at FB showed less satisfaction and a decline in app usage when ads were untargeted. Turns out teenagers don't like seeing ads for adult diapers and refinance offers.
Researchers say programmatic ads are finding their way on AI-generated websites and other low-quality content.
