Bittensor is itself a subnet.
And what does a subnet do?
It continuously adjusts its incentive mechanism until the interests of participants align with the outcome it is trying to produce.
For Bittensor, that outcome is simple: allocate capital as efficiently as possible toward the subnets creating the most value.
So when the protocol changes its rules, it doing exactly what every subnet is supposed to do: refining its incentive mechanism as it learns what works, what gets exploited, and what produces the best outcome.
You can debate the direction, the speed, or the execution of each change.
But (in my view) expecting the rules to remain fixed makes little sense.
Asking Bittensor to stop tuning its rules is asking a subnet to stop being a subnet.
Everyone in Bittensor will be affected by Root Reborn, whether they want it or not.
Before: Root APY was manufactured by the protocol automatically selling a slice of validators’ subnet emissions back into bittensor:native.
After: that slice is no longer auto-sold. Validators now have to continuously re-inject it into the subnets they choose.
My understanding of the consequences (please correct me if/where I’m wrong):
1. Root APY will stop being uniform across validators.
We should start seeing much wider dispersion between validators, driven by allocation decisions, timing, risk management, and ultimately skill.
2. Validators are being forced to become portfolio managers overnight.
They now have to compete on a skill most of them were never trained on: capital allocation.
Will we see weight-copying here too? Probably.
3. Root stakers now have to actively choose validators.
Looking at past APY won’t be enough. Past performance says very little about future performance.
What will matter is consistency, drawdowns, volatility, allocation discipline, and the ability to separate actual skill from temporary luck.
4. For subnets, the big change is that validator demand becomes more visible.
The subnets that keep attracting validator capital over time may start sending a strong signal to the market: “serious allocators believe this subnet is worth backing.”
Of course, this will not be perfect. Some validators may copy others. Some subnets may try to court validators like in pre-dTAO times. Some flows may be political or short-term.
But if you combine this update with the miner burn penalties and OTF freezing emissions to unproductive subnets, validators who allocate to subnets for the wrong reasons will mechanically under-perform over time.
So the only signal subnet teams should focus on sending validators to receive that extra chain buy back is to ship, ship, ship
Thats exactly why I think its a genius move to make these 3 protocol updates happen in a similar time span. The subnets that are building will benefit from extra buy pressure and a positive market flywheel, while the ones who are not, will suffer from capital rotation.
So overall, I am very pleased about where the protocol is going with these updates
less narratives,
less politics,
less relationships,
more useful work and good allocation of capital.
I choose to look at the opportunities this update will create, and it will create some massive ones.
Validators will now be incentivized to work as subnet allocators.
Does being incentivized necessarily mean they will be able to excel in that?
Not really. But thats what why we are here.
Root stakers are about to get much pickier. If you're in root, it means you want stable yield that compounds quietly over time. If you wanted volatility, you'd be in subnets. Root's entire appeal is stability- lose that, and there's no reason to be in root at all.
So the validators who win this won't be the ones chasing the highest returns to the detriment of predictability. They'll be the ones who maximize stable, compounding returns over time, relentlessly.
That's not a side quest. It's a serious quant problem, and it can't be taken lightly.
We're a team of quants who've spent nearly a year building yield-optimizing allocation strategies on Bittensor subnets. We're one of these young teams @const_reborn. For us, this is the most important update since dTAO. We're all in.
We offer tailored subnet strategies that have been thoroughly backtested to meet risk-adjusted targets and liquidity constraints.
If you are validator who see this coming and want to start building toward it now, DMs open.
We’re making dTAO allocation less opaque.
With taogalaxy Active Trades, investors can see exactly what each index currently holds: entry price, current price, allocation, and performance.
Rule-based investing, fully transparent.
Two trillion galaxies in the observable universe. Some have existed for billions of years. Others are just lighting up.
The taogalaxy is one of those.
Young, expanding, and burning brighter every day.
We build quantitative strategies to help investors navigate the noise and discover the stars shaping the future of this galaxy.
In this clip, our CEO @allan_quantifi explains one of the most underrated things about Bittensor:
incentives are public.
When we look at a subnet, the GitHub repo is one of the first things we read.
Because for the first time, you don’t have to rely only on what a team says it is building. You can inspect what the subnet is actually rewarding people to do.
While the whole $tao subnet market is down quite badly, our growth index has been extremely robust since the covenant crash and is currently at an ATH.
It is a rather defensive strategy, so especially adapted to moments like now.
Yep guys. It’s another @proofoftalk post
For those who aren’t here, I know exactly how you feel because that was me last year.
12 months later, @taogalaxy_ is now a team of 3 people fully dedicated to making the life of subnet investors easier, and we got the chance to be invited at @proofoftalk
I wish all of those who didn’t make it this time have the chance to experience it next year. It’s really special to finally see in real all these passionate people, reunited for the same cause.
Thank you again to @bitstarterAI and @opentensor for sponsoring this event, and thank you to all our guests for taking the time to join us and introduce Bittensor to the students: @mccrinbc, @webuildscore, and @macrozack.
On a personal level, this feels like a real milestone. Being able to finally meet someone like @macrozack, whom I’ve been in touch with for more than a year without ever meeting in person, was genuinely special.
What started as a few conversations on X has now turned into real people, real friendships, real companies, and real events. It’s amazing to see how far the Bittensor ecosystem has come.
We’ll be sharing more content from the event in the coming days, including the full video recording.
And finally, a huge thank you to my co-founders @adefi_ and @0xLePilz, as well as @42Blockchain_ , for helping organize this event. This would not have been possible without you.
Very excited to finally share this:
Bittensor will be presented to students at @42born2code next Monday in Paris, just ahead of @proofoftalk.
42 is one of the most respected coding schools in France and Europe and shares a philosophy that feels remarkably aligned with Bittensor: no traditional teachers, peer-to-peer learning, and a strong emphasis on autonomy and merit.
It’s the perfect place to introduce the ecosystem and hopefully lay the groundwork for future hands-on initiatives such as hackathons and technical workshops.
A huge thank you to @opentensor and @bitstarterAI for sponsoring the event and helping make it happen.
@taogalaxy_ is co-organizing the event alongside @42Blockchain_, the school’s blockchain club, whose support throughout the organization has been incredible.
Speakers include:
• @macrozack (@bitstarterAI)
• @MaxScore (@webuildscore)
• @mccrinbc (@MacrocosmosAI)
• Myself (@taogalaxy_)
If you’ll be in Paris on June 1st, we still have a few spots available:
https://t.co/pBf7Pc0MCJ
For those who can’t make it, the event will be recorded and I’ll share it on X shortly afterwards.
Can’t wait for this one. 🚀

I don't come from crypto. @allan_quantifi knew that. He pitched me Bittensor anyway, repeatedly. (annoyingly?)
But eventually he managed to get to me.
I care about working on big problems that look impossible to solve. What Bittensor is trying to solve and who it is competing against is genuinely unreasonable. Thats why I am here.
One thing I observed though, as an outsider, is that Bittensor is 1) meant for everyone, but 2) very difficult to access. My goal is to enable anyone, inside or outside of crypto, to be able to participate to this vibrant ecosystem. I am very eager to connecting with all of you.
COO at @taogalaxy.
Let's go.
Bittensor just got a second startup incubated at @joinstationf, the largest startup campus in the world.
Proud to say: I’m no longer the only bloke building taogalaxy.
Meet @adefi_, our new COO, and @0xLePilz, our new CTO.
We are immensely proud to contribute at our own scale to make @bittensor more recognized in the European tech scene.
What really distinguishes Bittensor from, literally, any other ‘crypto project’ in the world is its ability to convince people all around the world to want to dedicate their whole life to this ecosystem without having any certainty about the outcome.
My two friends and now associates accepted to join me in this journey because they absolutely believe in the life-changing technological and societal progress Bittensor has the potential to offer.
Conviction sounds like the appropriate word for this.
Very interesting take from @macrozack at the end of this extract:
(paraphrasing) Networks are the most natural environment for artificial intelligence to develop, not corporations.
Just look at how intelligence emerged in nature, through survival of the fittest and natural selection, in a distributed system of predator and prey.
My take is that every intelligence we know of emerged from a network, and every future one will too.
Even the LLMs we use daily, built inside closed labs, only exist because they were trained on the internet, aka the largest open network humans have ever built.
So if AGI emerges the way every prior intelligence did, it won't come from a lab. It'll come from a network.
Bittensor is the first one built specifically for it.
