True story. A couple I know moved to the US. Husband came on an F1 student visa, wife and kids on F2, which meant she could not formally work.

Most people would have waited. She did not.

She cooked for people, braided hair, then trained as a nurse in an accelerated program. She became a nurse before his student status ran out, got a hospital job, and the whole family got their green card through her.

They did not have this planned when they landed. They just came, and figured it out.

An NYSC scheme that suffered so many Backlogs that they had to create multiple Batches a Year from the normal 1/2 yearly streams na Wetin Dr Joe dey talk say Corpers will Now Spend 6 weeks in Camp? The New Backlog will Be Insane. We’re being ruled by Men who dont have Sense. 🤬🙄

Recommendations for NYSC from actual Nigerian youths with Brains in their head.

1. Scrap the scheme entirely. Pay all graduates their 12 months Gratuities upfront. It comes in Bulk and can actually Help them start SMEs. If not..

2. Camp should be reduced to 2 weeks

3. Real Time Military Training and Self Defense Classes should be Taught to Corpers esp Females. Boxing, Martial Arts even Basic Military Gun Assembly and Armaments training is fine.

4. Camp Grounds, Hostels and Toilet Facilities should first be completely Refurbished & Furmigated nationwide.

5. States and LGAs with Terrorism and Bandit attack records should be totally Exempted from the Scheme. Corpers shouldn’t be sent there.

6. Modernize all Mami Markets and enforce strict Safety Standards to all Consumed food and Beverages in Camp.

7. Improve the quality of the current Iconic NYSC uniform. NYSC boots and Sneakers should be world standard and the Caps, Khakis and Tshirts should be of better grade quality. Many ripped from Exercise and simple movements alone.

8. Increase Corper salaries to reflect modern economic realities.

9. The NYSC scheme should not be used as an Excuse to continue tolerating Failures in the Ministry of Education and Health. Corpers are worth more to the Nation than Cheap teacher Labour.

10. Involve more modern advanced STEM training, get Professionals In current Youth based fields of Earning to lecture. Even Streamers, Graphic artistes and DJs etc can come and give talks to the youth. Camp shouldnt be 1 big Jamboree but a last Busstop of Higher Learning before hitting the real world.

This 10 points alone are better than the BS Dr Joe and his team submitted. Pls add Your own ideas below abeg.
