There is a name that appears in the settlement papers of Case No. 93 C 4483, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Not Bola. The initials are K.O. Tinubu. When the United States government moved in 1993 to seize funds it described as proceeds of a white heroin trafficking network operating out of Chicago, the claimants to those frozen accounts included the man who is today President of Nigeria, his surrogate mother, and his wife, Oluremi.

Let us be precise, because precision is what her defenders fear most. The 1993 proceeding was a civil forfeiture, not a criminal conviction. No one went to prison. But the stipulated settlement, signed and docketed, ordered that $460,000 held in the name of Bola Tinubu be forfeited to the United States as narcotics-linked proceeds, and that the remaining funds be released to K.O. Tinubu. She was married to him in 1987. The network operated from 1988 to 1993. She was not a distant spouse reading about it in the newspapers. She was a named claimant to the money.

So when Nigerians ask today how the First Lady could not have known about her husband's Chicago entanglement, they are asking the wrong question. The record suggests she did not need to be told. Her name is in the file. And when American intelligence agencies, the CIA, FBI and DEA among them, jointly oppose the release of unredacted records on the President in ongoing US litigation, citing national security and referencing his possible status as an asset, the question becomes darker still. What exactly is being protected, and who in the presidential household has known it all along?

Thirty years later, the woman from the Chicago settlement papers distributes billions of naira across Nigeria and dares anyone to ask where it comes from.

The numbers are staggering. Her Renewed Hope Initiative has mobilised and disbursed over one hundred billion naira in three years, by the Nigerian press's own accounting. A further twenty-five billion was raised in a single year through her birthday education fund for the National Library. Two billion here for tuberculosis. A billion there for breast cancer. Half a billion for malnutrition. A billion to Benue. A billion to Plateau. One hundred million to Kogi. All announced in the first person. I gave, she says. I gave.

Gave from what? The Office of the First Lady does not exist in the 1999 Constitution. It receives no appropriation in the national budget. It answers to no auditor-general, no National Assembly committee, no freedom of information request. Yet into this constitutionally invisible office flows a river of money: pledges of ten billion naira from NNPC Limited, the state oil company that belongs to all Nigerians; seventeen billion routed through the Federal Government's own Social Action Fund; truckloads of food from donors she declines to name; five hundred thousand dollars from contributors described simply as anonymous. Her explanation, delivered to the wives of governors at the Presidential Villa, was breathtaking in its simplicity. We are an NGO, she said. People give us money.

People give us money. In which country on earth do anonymous benefactors shower billions upon the household of a sitting president and expect nothing? What contract, what licence, what appointment, what silence is the receipt for this generosity? When state oil revenue is laundered through a private initiative bearing the family's campaign slogan, that is not philanthropy. That is the privatisation of the Nigerian treasury with a charitable face.

And she is no ceremonial spouse. Three terms in the Senate. Hands-on control of the First Lady's wing of the Villa. Persistent reports of influence over ministerial appointments, including the elevation of the Chief of Staff around whom appointment-bribery allegations now swirl. This year she was distributing vehicles to APC women leaders in opposition states, charity deployed with the accuracy of a campaign war chest ahead of 2027.

This is also the woman recorded in 2022 declaring that the deities of Lagos would be summoned to chase the Igbo out of the state, and that those who did not marry Yoruba would be inherited. An ordained assistant pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, whose General Overseer has been reduced to defending her credentials from the pulpit while church members allege their own protests are muzzled to spare the presidency embarrassment.

I do not write from malice. I write from Stockholm, where public money is traceable to the last krona and the spouse of a prime minister could not accept an anonymous dinner, let alone anonymous billions. Nigeria deserves nothing less. So let the questions be asked plainly. Who are the donors? What do they receive? Why does state oil money flow into a private initiative? And why does the name from the Chicago settlement papers now preside over the largest unaudited slush operation in the history of the Nigerian first family?

She says people give us money. Nigerians are entitled to ask which people, and why. Until she answers, every billion she announces is not a gift to Nigeria. It is a debt Nigeria will be made to repay in ways it cannot yet see.

When he ran for governor of Lagos in 1999, name of employer was Delloite. When he ran for reelection in 2003, name of employer, Delloite.

Years later, some Nigerians suspected something was wrong, and subpoena Delloite to confirm if he actually worked with the company. But Delloite said they don't have any records of ANY Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Bola Tinubu as previous employer of their company.

Since then, oga refused to fill Delloite in his @inecnigeria forms. E don give Delloite chance.

In any serious country that alone will be thoroughly investigated till the end, but agencies that are supposed to investigate this are standing on a criminal mandate.
