By defeating the Delimitation and Constitutional Amendment Bill, the opposition parties have done a great disservice to the Nation.

With the freeze under Article 81 set to end after the first Census conducted post 2026, the forthcoming census exercise will reset seat distribution purely on population, potentially leading to a steep decline in representation for Southern, North-Eastern, and smaller states.

The NDA’s proposal was a sincere effort to preserve federal balance, protect the voice of Southern, North-Eastern, and smaller states, and ensure 33% representation for women. It recognised that states which have performed well on key development indicators should not be penalised in the democratic structure.

It is unfortunate that political agendas have prevailed over long term national interest. Those celebrating this outcome must introspect, we have lost an opportunity to secure a fair and constitutional safeguard for rightful representation.

While the reality is that the numbers would come down for the south and women reservation bill has been postponed ! Justice is rendered neither to the south nor the women! If 2026 census were to come the situation would be worse off for the south, further penalised for being disciplined in the matters of family planning.

Tamil Nadu has lost the opportunity to increase their political power and its rightful share of 20 more MP seats.

We have not only lost the golden opportunity given by Honourable Prime Minister Thiru. @narendramodi Avl to

but @mkstalin being a puppet and not understanding the crux of the opportunity, you blindly opposed it.

If delimitation had been done based on 2011 census, we would have lost 9 MP seats. Because of your mindless opposition to the bill, the delimitation will now be based on 2026 census and we will lose even more MP seats.

Further, in 1998, Hon’ble Puratchi Thalaivi Amma, has brought women’s reservation bill under then PM Vajpayee ji leadership. During that time, your own INDI Alliance partners ensured that the bill did not get passed. This time around, you have killed that very spirit by opposing the bill and have done greatest injustice not only to #TamilNadu but also to the women all across India.

Thiru. @mkstalin Avargale, what exactly are you celebrating? The damage you have done to Tamil Nadu’s future or the greatest opportunity that you ruined for the women empowerment ?
