Reflection. Jumping into my masters & realizing this might be harder than I thought with 2 young kids, a full time job, being in 2 bands, & a husband who works away. But @tweetsomemoore says that kids can "do hard things," so, I can too! #Summer6110 https://t.co/t6677DSrIL
If there is one thing I strive for in my job it's making connections with students. I put that at the forefront of everything. #Summer6110 https://t.co/UVnsshd0IW
Play based learning was a focus during my last school year. It was interesting to see how many teachers struggled with this concept. Does play help children learn self-regulation skills? #Summer6110

@kj_macleod This makes me sick to my stomach. Instead of worrying about the fact Alberta students are the lowest funded students in NORTH AMERICA, they throw standardized testing at them, and of course, do it sneakily. What about critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving?#Summer6110
@KamalDhillonWPG@kj_macleod You're absolutely right, one size does not fit all. I love having teachers implement self-regulation strategies within their own classroom, but I also appreciate the opportunity to use a separate space for students who need that. #Summer6110
Another amazing article about regulation spaces for students. Thanks @kj_macleod for this one. Although we know how important they are, there are still barriers. Money, space, supervision. Does your school have a dedicated regulation space? #Summer6110

@chandler_gupei@kj_macleod What grades are in your school? I only ask as a step to my next question. Are these spaces self sufficient, or are students escorted, connected with, or involved with adults? #Summer6110
@BrookeBoutilier I really appreciate this! I love giving my students choice in as many things I can. If they have the opportunity to choose, the often are more willing to keep trying, keep moving forward, work through the tough things and get to the end. #Summer6110
@EmilyG426546442 I can't even calculate the number of times I have used songs to teach concepts in the classroom. Songs about cells, proper sentence writing, multiplying fractions. And go figure, what do my middle school students remember? The worst songs I give them!
My research focus is on the effectiveness of specific rooms for regulation. These rooms come with many different names, but the same goal; a space to reset, and regulate. What are these rooms and what do they do? https://t.co/EKoAuGPnRg

@tatwood2024 I sure wish that what we incorporate into elementary classrooms would continue through middle school and high school. Movement breaks, brain breaks, learning through play, these things can all be beneficial to "older" kids as well. #Summer6110
@tatwood2024 I love these suggestions. Movement in the classroom relates to my research on regulation and how important that is for student success. I love the idea of incorporating different musical breaks into the classroom too! #Summer6110
@Tahoor500 I would love to see this across school boards, but like you said, "VR requires expensive and sophisticated hardware and software." How can this be equitable? #Summer6110
This diagram from Bruce Perry is what I live by at home with my kids and in my job as a Learning Assistance Teacher. The question is, how can kids regulate in chaotic, overwhelming classrooms? #Summer6110@BDPerry
