No standards were set and announced. In previous cycles this all occurred in July. For example, in a congressional debate, it was 5% in polls and $100,000. Candidates were notified of the standard well in advance, and then mid July informed of who qualified.

The question is simple: Will he?

Floridians deserve to hear where the candidates stand on the issues that affect their families every day. Property taxes. Insurance costs. Growth. Public safety. Education. The economy.

We want a public debate in Florida before the Republican primary. This should not be a difficult ask. Open debate, transparency, and accountability are literally the most basic expectations of a fair and transparent election process.

The party's refusal to hold a debate raises a simple question. Why are they unwilling to give voters the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates?

We remember the victims, the first responders, the service members, and the families forever changed by 9/11.
