In Japan, children clean their own schools.
Every day. After lunch.
About twenty minutes.
Classrooms.
Hallways.
Toilets.
Not because the schools are too poor
to hire someone.
Because in 1947, this country decided
that cleaning your own space
is part of becoming a person.
The cleaning rag
is on the school supply list.
Right next to the pencils.
Egypt teaches it now.
So does Indonesia.
So does Mongolia.
Think about the last time
you watched a seven-year-old
mop a floor without complaining.
Japan does that
in every elementary school
in the country.
Not as punishment.
As education.
Los verdaderos lujos en la vida
1. Vivir a 10 minutos del trabajo
2. Vivir a 5 minutos del gimnasio
3. Tener vecinos silenciosos
5. Goodhart's Law:
When a measure becomes a target, it stops being a good measure.
Schools chase grades instead of knowledge. Companies chase metrics instead of outcomes.
The moment you optimise for the proxy, you lose sight of the point.
Having been an orthopedic surgeon for 30 years...5 things I wish someone had told you before you walked into my office — in atraumatic joint and tendon pain.
Most of you will present with atraumatic joint and tendon pain... traumatic injuries are far less common in adults. And no... you didn't "sleep wrong."
@RositaDaz48 70% isn't all Australia! Surely we are mature enough to see both sides of a story. It can be a day we celebrate the great things we have done as well as acknowledge the consequences European arrival had on the aboriginals.
Roger Federer’s commencement speech at Dartmouth went viral last week.

@bejiitas_wrath For us Anzac day means commemorating sacrifice of armed services. We're lucky we don't commemorate 100,000s of civilian deaths, ie, how others commemorate wars, think Europe, Vietnam, Ukraine and Palestine, also indigenous Australians. Respect!
