Every Discrimination in society trickles down to derailing negative impacts into larger society!
Wage discrimination among expat & locals is intended to extract & maximise profit, while keeping the labor costs cheap, and effectively creating a division within the working class.
@MaldivesHPU@PSIglobalunion
Despite Trade Unions right, the workers right to collectively organise into unions and collectively bargain is essentially a fundamental human right; the opposing forces are strong - that deprive the workers from this very right - which is the only pathway for decent life for the working class.
One such stark example is @governmentmv@min_mohst to organise a rally, to strip this right, and occupy the spaces which workers unions hold to represent workers struggles and their voices.
Workers struggle is a class struggle.

Greetings on International Labour Day to all members of this union federation, to all healthcare workers, and to all local and expatriate workers contributing to the economy of the Maldives.
Fair wages for all cadres, payment for every hour worked, a safe working environment, and full protection under the law are rights that belong to every worker—local and expatriate alike. Hence, we call upon the government to fully implement the laws related to workers’ rights.

Th sixth edition of the Global Public Health Week (6th – 10th April) calls for global and national public health actors to advance health equity, strengthen health systems, and champion public health as a global public good.
Health disparities across the Maldives are widening, driven by a growing disconnect between scientific evidence and policy reform. This divide, compounded by the mismanagement of health financing and critical staffing shortages, threatens the stability of our health infrastructure.
MHPU calls for immediate and decisive action to ensure equitable access for all, we must:
•Align Policy with Data: Bridge the gap between research and decision-making to create evidence-based health strategies.
•Optimize Resource Allocation: Address financial mismanagement to ensure funds directly support patient care and system resilience.
•Invest in Human Capital: build a robust and sustainable healthcare system, we must prioritize the human capital at its core by resolving critical staffing gaps and enforcing safe workload standards. This requires moving beyond mere policy development to the rigorous implementation of occupational health protections and fair working conditions.
@Mishi_2210 It’s the couple who went for the picnic, so the answer is 2.
The rest is loud noise created to find out who uses critical thinking to solve the real problem without getting lost.
Maldives Gov announced plans for a 1-year oil reserve… in the middle of a global energy crisis.
Do they genuinely think everyone single Maldivian is as gullible as their paid activists?
This is another fantasy like MDP gov pledge to bring floating hospital during COVID that never arrived.
The same country that needed loans just to cope with rising fuel prices is now claiming to buy and store 365 days of oil? This will be another World Record like the first glass tunnel in the world connecting male to RasMale
Let’s talk reality.
🇯🇵 Japan: one of the most energy-secure nations on earth: Reserve: 160–200 days
🇺🇸 USA: largest strategic reserve in the world: 90–120 days
🇰🇷 South Korea: 90–100 days
🇪🇺 Europe: 90 days (legal requirement)
These are countries with trillions in GDP, vast land, refineries, pipelines, and decades of infrastructure.
And even they don’t attempt 1-year reserves.
Why?
Because even if you have the money it’s economically irrational and operationally complex:
1. You lock billions into oil that just sits there
2. You must constantly rotate stock because fuel actually degrades. ( ex: Petrol 3-6 months)
3. You need massive land and specialized storage systems
4. You carry serious fire, spill, and environmental risks
5. And long before 365 days, global markets adjust supply
That’s why the global benchmark is 90 days, not 365.
Now look at Maldives:
No refining capacity. Limited land. High import costs. Logistically constrained island geography.
And barely enough fiscal space to even sustain current supply without borrowing.
And yet we’re being sold a vision that even the richest, most advanced economies don’t pursue.
This isn’t ambitious policy.
It’s a headline designed for applause, banking on the assumption that most Maldivians will not question the math, the logistics, or the reality but just 👏👏.
They are right, half of the population ( PNC members) will clap the same way MDPians 👏👏 for the floating hospital.
But not everyone is that stupid.
Why do we have to be EXTREMELY cautious ?
Because when a superpower operates, they don’t always tell you the full picture. Especially during a war. And once you’re involved, you don’t control the consequences.
Look at Sri Lankan case:
Feb 26 ( before war began): US requested to land two aircrafts in Sri Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport from March 4-8. Srilanka said NO.
Feb 28: US-Israel starts attacking Iran
Match 4: US Submarine torpedoed Iranian navy vessel near Sri Lanka.
Now we know US wanted to land two aircrafts equipped with anti-warship missiles to sink Iranian navy vessel. They had been tracking it early on. But US never informed this to Srilankan’s. US used the submarine only because they couldn’t use Srilanka as a launch point.
Now imagine if they had said yes.
Sri Lanka would have been the launch point for sinking Iranian vessel, whether they knew the details or not. That alone is enough to drag the country into geopolitical fallout, retaliation risks, and internal political chaos.
And once your territory is used, you don’t get to say: We didn’t know!
Small states don’t get transparency. They get used.
This isn’t about taking sides. It’s about protecting sovereignty.
So,
Be cautious. Be skeptical. Be VERY VERY cautious.
The ILAW Network expresses its deep concern over the arrest of nearly 30 workers, including members of @FishermensUnion, who engaged in peaceful industrial action to improve their wages and working conditions. All must be released and their labour rights fully respected. @governmentmv@ilo@ituc@itucasiapacific
The teacher shouldn’t have resorted to physical altercation.
But after hearing what the student did, I’m speechless. In all my school life upto 12th grade in Maldives which ended in 2012, I have never seen a student behave like this.
Something went horribly wrong in the past decade.
The right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right, and a right guaranteed under the constitution of the Maldives.
Condemn the act by @governmentmv for dismantling, @FishermensUnion peaceful assembly and arresting people for exercising their right to peaceful assembly, and right to collectively protect and demand for fair wages and decent life. Calling for immediate release of the detained.
Yet, deeply concerned over the prevailing 'vulnerabilities' which the migrants population are being pushed. They are forced to be 'trapped' and become 'undocumented' - not willingly but in the premise of 'human trafficking'.
Which strip them of, their very right to live, breathe, and access to fundamental human rights such as the right to social protection and legal protections.
Call to @PoliceMv@ImmigrationMV to treat the detained 'migrants' with dignity and respect, and safeguard their very right to defend, and the employer held accountable for their 'legal status'
@iufap@ILAW_Network@MaldivesHPU@PSIasiapacific
Workers agency to collectivism must be protected.
It must be ALL, detained including the detained migrants. Every worker and ordinary must be protected. The migrants are placed in particularly vulnerable contexts.

At Women’s Committee meeting and Caucus of the 15th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of PSI, the General Secretary of MHPU and Executive Board Member for South Asia, PSI, Ms. @Fathimathzimna highlighted key challenges to gender equality and worker protection from all forms of harassment and violence. She stressed the barriers created by entrenched patriarchy, underreporting due to fear of retaliation, and the misuse of social media for defamation and harassment—particularly against women in politics. She concluded by urging unions to strengthen their responses, noting that silence often prevails when perpetrators hold social or political power.
