According to the IDF, Hamas created doctored polls to falsely boost their popularity among Gazans.

I think most people want a humanitarian ceasefire: for the hostages to be returned and more food and shelter provided for the people of Gaza. For the bombing to stop.
At the moment talks are off because Hamas refuses to even say which hostages are dead or alive, let alone guarantee they will exchange them.
They are Hamas’s last trump card in this bitter war.

Omar likes to oversimplify the Israeli-Palestinian conflict into a Manichean struggle between oppressed Palestinians and brutal apartheidist Israelis in KKK hoods.

But I don't think this is actually the pathway to resolving the conflict. In fact, I think it is the pathway to endless war, and endless escalating losses and grievances.

The fact is that a majority on both sides deep down are something like normal people who just want to live their lives, they are not ideologues who want to ethnically cleanse the other. But people on both sides have been extremely traumatised by the ongoing conflict, and the wars, bombings, terrorism, and the loss of friends and family members.

This is how you end up with polls saying that many Palestinians support Hamas, or polls saying that many Israelis believe that they are not using enough firepower in Gaza.

The actual solution, which I hope we get to in the end, is that both sides can humanise the other and recognise that the majority of Palestinian and Israeli people are just normal people who want to live.

That is the only way that extremist and violent elements on either side who advocate for continued conflict in pursuit of "justice" will end up being marginalised and prevented from having any further influence.

What I want to see from Western pro-Palestinian "allies" is support for a 2 state solution, peace negotiations, and peaceful leaders.

What I see instead is advocacy for deconstructing Israel & people making excuses for Hamas.
