@inventivefarmer I think phones are key, but the answer is not that simple: many smallholders only have feature phones, face prohibitive costs per megabyte of data, AND can't read well (or at all). How do you seek under those conditions? It might be hard even to formulate the right questions.

#Food systems are complex: each actor has their own complex value chain (in the pic, 1 possible #farmer perspective). We're adding #technology and #digitalag, but how can it help the #smallholder graduate from poverty, especially w/o human-capital-intensive #extension services?

After #15thICPA, I'm convinced the @IntSoPA should be part of the @isostandards Strategic Advisory Group on #SmartFarming. Food systems are complex; optimizing field operations can play a big part in reducing the resource #footprint of #farming; @IntSoPA has that expertise.
