Welcome to Afro-Mental Health Community! Where we have fun while talking about issues that affect our mental health as Africans. IG:@afro.mental.health
@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @kellamckenzie@Somi67 COVID-19 is a rollercoaster and harder and takes time to readjust to this new normal and allow yourself to take this time and put yourself in an environment that allows you to talk about your feelings and emotions and validates these feelings.
@ThriveUg@LMujja @MetroHealthINT @afro_mental@kellamckenzie@Somi67 It should be noted that different people respond differently, you need to know your people before you can label them. Also, it's important to seek the help of a psychologist, counselor, psychiatrist...
@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @kellamckenzie@Somi67 Is someone withdrawing from social situations? Constantly fatigued? Tired? Speaking about life as though there is no point. A dramatic change in their behavior -even sexual promiscuous behavior or over drinking and use of drugs are way to tell that you should check in on someone
@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @afro_mental@Somi67 SPEAK UP, we have a vibrant young generation that is not afraid of being judged for their thoughts, we need their stories, experiences and ideas because there is no standard way to heal, we must constantly learn from our problems if we want to have control of them.
@Somi67@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @afro_mental@kellamckenzie You see, The Ill concept of how society perceives the word "Mental" and Mad is rooted deeply into humanity during childhood, I think if we are to change the narrative we must start from the little generation
@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @afro_mental@Somi67 We need to carry on the conversations coz it is then that we realise that even a therapist has their own battles, we need to dimistify the idea that this is a problem faced by a certain group of people. The more we talk about it, the more we learn about it.

@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @afro_mental@kellamckenzie this forum as an excellent starting point if you ask me -- so congrats @ThriveUg ! In my view, with regard to all types of mental illness, we must talk more, joke more, write even more, sing more etc etc, until we normalise having anxiety/depression etc
@ThriveUg@LMujja@Meyarmoses @MetroHealthINT @kellamckenzie@Somi67 We can increase awareness by providing safe spaces to discuss mental health and challenge the toxic foundations that we are exposed to in our everyday life.
Even leading by example - be role models
