It's been about a year ago since I launched a site called 🇵🇹 Only In Portugal to journal the crazy issues we've experienced as foreigners moving to Portugal with both governments agencies and businesses here, most of them quite Kafka-esque in nature

Of course everyone's reaction is "why don't you leave?"

But it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, which has incredible potential

And it's nicer to fix things, and while complaining about things doesn't make you popular (I've received many death threats), it is oddly effective if you do it in the public sphere:

Collectively complaining about things, as we've seen with Google (they stopped self-sabotaging and are now the leader in AI), the European Union (they are passing laws based on @euacc points), and even Apple (Tim Cook finally quit), does fix things, eventually!

So I'm trying the same with Portugal

I feel AI governance has a lot of potential, AI can be quite a neutral party that can look at issues and find solutions in a very pragmatic and non-partisan way

So I've asked AI to analyze over 300 issues, stories and experiences submitted to my site in the last 12 months, and write an deep analysis report how to fix Portugal in the next 5 years: every argument it makes is based on real experiences from real people , so no AI hallucinations

AI believes all issues here are based on 5 core problems:
- The Portuguese government is too expensive and too slow to interact with
- There aren't enough skilled workers and no incentive to become one
- There is zero accountability anywhere in the system
- Technology adoption is 15–20 years behind
- The tax system punishes productive people and rewards evasion

(P.S. of course many of Portugal's issues are a microcosm of Europe's macro issues)

AI then created a 5-Year Action Plan to solve it:

1.2 Nuke the Immigration Agency, Build a Digital Replacement
1.3 Gut the Public Sector Bureaucracy
1.4 The Accountability Law

4.3 Consumer Protection

YEAR 5 — Consolidation
5.1 Measure Everything
5.2 Cultural Campaigns
5.3 The Exit Metric

Of course the next challenge is how do you get this to politicians, but we did this with @euacc before, so we can surely do it in Portugal too!

Today, I made the incredibly difficult decision to transition Neutron to long term support.

It is never easy to close a 4 year + chapter, and I wish we had been able to deliver more successful outcomes to all who bet on us as a team and project.

Yet I'm tremendously proud of our team, our work, and our consistent drive to maintain our integrity and transparency, even in tough times.

All in all, we shipped infrastructure that secured >$100M TVL, facilitated close to $2bn in trading volume, and never lost a user dollar.

We pioneered a more integrated / opinionated approach to building blockchains and L1 ecosystems, which is now being validated by industry-defining projects such as Tempo and Hyperliquid.

I am also tremendously grateful for all of the help and support we received throughout the journey - from our partners, backers and community - and for having the opportunity to work and learn alongside you each day for the last 4 years.

For now, my priority is to return as much value as possible to all stakeholders: teammates, users, builders, and backers.

To this effect, over the next few months, I'll continue to shepherd the remaining work to make Neutron safe and sustainable without our active involvement longer term.

BTC Summer is the most intentional thing we've ever done on Neutron.

We started by asking ourselves what is needed to make DeFi on BTC a reality. The answer is that there are three components :
1) yield
2) liquidity
3) leverage

BTC yields are practically non-existent across all of crypto. To solve the yield problem, we incubated maxBTC, an easy way for everyone to get great yields on BTC by just depositing or swapping into the token.

But a token with yield isn't enough. Users and traders need liquidity - a way to swap and borrow BTC with little price impact. To solve this problem we built Supervaults - a dynamic, high-frequency market making protocol that anyone can deposit to. BTC Summer is the campaign to bootstrap this liquidity.

And finally users need leverage. This is where Amber and Mars come in. Amber is an isolated market for BTC tokens. On Amber you can use maxBTC as collateral to borrow wBTC, solvBTC, eBTC, uniBTC and LBTC. If you want to leverage your BTC yields Amber lets you swap your borrowed tokens into maxBTC and supply them as collateral at your desired leverage in a single transaction.

Mars on the other hand, allows you to use you BTC tokens as perps collateral so you can trade against them - go leverage long, basis trade by shorting, or run a long-short strategy, all while your collateral as yield.

These protocols are unique in their design and only exist on Neutron. Not just because Neutron fast and cheap (which it is), but because it has unique, powerful infrastructure for applications to build on.

BTC Summer is about unlocking the largest trades on the industries largest asset. But it's just the start to showing the world what Neutron can do.
