Dear American people,
What have you done to yourselves? Does a statement like this truly sit well with you? When rhetoric around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz slips into spectacle, it reflects not strength, but a quiet abdication of responsibility. Politics, at its finest, is a moral conversation; anchored in restraint, reason, and accountability. Reduced to performance, it becomes mere noise: loud, reckless, and unanswerable.
The question, then, is not about one individual. It is about what a democracy, in its collective wisdom, chooses to accept and eventually, to normalize. We, too, are not sailing in a different boat.
Jai Hind.
The killing of #Khamenei is not only an event. It is a signal. #Iran
When targeted force is framed as a “defining moment,” the vocabulary of international conduct shifts. Norms that once held the centre/rules-based order begin to loosen. When assassination is reframed as emancipation, the rules of the international system quietly mutate. What was once extraordinary becomes arguable. What was once taboo becomes tactical.
Yeats wrote of a widening gyre — a spiral in which order thins and the centre struggles to hold. We should resist the temptation to see this as distant turbulence. The spiral touches us too.
For India, the implications are immediate.
Energy (for India a good proportion)
passes through Hormuz.
Millions of Indians live and work in the Gulf.
Connectivity initiatives such as Chabahar sit in an increasingly uncertain environment.
Oil volatility quickly becomes domestic economic volatility.
Strategic autonomy, in such moments, is not detachment. It is steadiness within the gyre. It is the ability to safeguard national interests while avoiding alignment with language or actions that deepen instability.
India’s voice must favour restraint, sovereignty, maritime stability, and protection of civilians. The language we use matters. It shapes what becomes acceptable.
History does not announce its turning points with fanfare. Often, the spiral simply widens — and we realise too late that the centre has shifted. The real question is not who fell. It is what just became permissible. The global centre does not collapse in a day. It erodes when violence is normalised and language sanitises it.
We live in a hinge moment. The chapter on benign unipolarity is closed. We are climbing into rarefied geopolitical high altitude . The system is under strain . We can sense the compression and the margin for error has narrowed.

When 9/11 happened, Iran was one of the first countries that condemned the terror attack. It even helped the Americans in the war against Qaeda/Taliban. Bush returned the favour by calling Iran, along with Iraq and North Korea, as an axis of evil. That was a warning sign. The North Koreans, who had the institutional memory of the devastating American bombing of 1950-53, moved swiftly to make a bomb. I would say they were smart. The Iranians chose not to make one. They thought the axis would give them deterrence while an advanced nuclear programme would provide them diplomatic cards. Khamenei even issued a fatwa against the bomb!
In 2015, they signed a deal, agreeing to limit the nuclear programme. They were fully compliant with the terms of the agreement. Trump returned the favour by tearing the deal apart in 2018. The rest is history.
I wrote this in June 2025: In a treacherous world like ours, nuclear weapons are the ultimate deterrent. If you make a bomb, make it, don't talk. Iran is being bombed not because it wants to make a bomb, but because it did not make one. It's too early to make predictions about which way the war is headed, but this one will have far-reaching consequences in West Asia. This is far bigger than the June war.
STRATEGIC SOVEREIGNTY VS STRATEGIC DEPENDENCY
Let's wrap up Sindoor and Bunayan Al Marsoos for now.
India is thanking its forces, its system, its economy, its people, and its leaders for engendering a new deterrence and elevating the challenge too costly for Pakistan to dare another adventure.
Pakistan, on the other hand, is thanking ever country and organization except India for "defusing the tension" and ending the blackout in Pakistan.
One is thankful for strategic sovereignty, and the other is indebted to strategic dependency.
Former Army Chief Gen Manoj Naravane-
"War or violence should be last option.
As a military man, if ordered, I will go to war, but that will not be my first choice.
War is not romantic. It is not your Bollywood movie. It is very serious business."

Pakistan Army is circulating videos of Indians criticising their own govt.
India’s Foreign Secretary replied:
“That’s called democracy. Citizens can question the govt. You won’t get it.”

Until then, let Pakistan keep dreaming of Kashmir, keep fantasizing about that cup of tea in Delhi. The rest of the world has better things to do—like preventing them from blowing themselves up, again.
