@dipika_bajpai And this is happening all over India. We love the concrete, cement and tarmac so much that we keep on plastering it everywhere. Our homes, pavements, open spaces, around trees everywhere.
Every person should plant at least 5 trees a year and nurture them.

@moefcc, @Anoopnautiyal1 A new thing has emerged in this reserve forest on the way to Pondha. Several healthy Sal trees have been inflicted by red saw dust which can kill the trees if not treated urgently. This is not a random event, it is a deliberate act of greed by humans.

Will Uttarakhand vanish too?

Did you see this? If not, please do if you care for your existence and survival. Do read beyond the headline "Entire Himachal may vanish : SC (Supreme Court) sounds environment alarm". This is from this mornings Indian Express.

For starters, lets me straightaway say that if you think that this is Himachal and does not concern us in Uttarakhand; you are living in another world altogether. When the court said it would like to say something about the “larger interest of the state of Himachal Pradesh and its inhabitants”; it very much applies to us as well.

The same reckless patterns exist here too: unplanned construction, over-tourism, vanishing rivers, ignored environmental laws, multi-storey hotels in landslide zones and waste piling up in fragile areas.

Havent we had enough wake-up calls from Kedarnath, Chamoli, Joshimath, Sirobagdad, Kwarab, Yamunotri, the list is endless. None of this has changed the state’s development trajectory in any meaningful way. If anything, the speed of ecological breakdown is only increasing due to the many reckless and dangerous policies and projects at play.

As I see it, there’s a cowboy style approach to building, clearing, extracting with little regard for long-term safety or sustainability. Disasters don’t respect state borders. Climate change doesn’t stop at Himachal’s edge and turn away from Uttarakhand. The entire region is in crisis and we keep acting like it’s business as usual.

Finally, the Supreme Court’s warning isn’t just for one state. It’s a reminder to all i.e. politicians, bureaucrats and citizens that we are playing with fire. This is an existential moment for the entire mountain belt. Our chances, If there’s ever been a time to change course, is now.

@Anoopnautiyal1 Your heart bleeds when you see in the name of modernisation govmt rampantly cuts trees, destroys forests, and blasts mountains for roads widening to 4 lanes. Landslides and incessant rains are common now. We can't fight nature, nature will prevail, come what may!
