#falzapham Gertrude becomes a sympathetic character, the extreme delicate feminine aspect that Shakespeare identifies her as makes her an innocent victim of the plotting of men and the dark reality of the world as she is poisoned by her own husband.
#falzapham Hamlet's discourse with the gravediggers moments before the play comes to a sudden end is strange, but Hamlet furthering his obession with death seems appropriate to do so infront of two peasants who don't recognize him as he resolves to return himself to dust.
#falzapham Claudius' true intentions are revealed by his conversation with the frantic Gertrude after her confrontation with Hamlet. Claudius' attention immediately turns to dealing with Hamlet and avoiding his power being taken away without a thought about Gertrude's safety.
#falzapham As the audience progresses, it appears that Hamlet's madness becomes a reality and not his fabrication, but Ophelia's clearly genuine madness acts as a foil to Hamlet's less sincere insanity, through Ophelia the audience is to interpret Hamlet's madness as feigned.
#falzapham Shakespeare's Hamlet revolves around the transition of power that followed Queen Elizabeth's death, Britain's long-ruling monarch. Society's concern and anticipation of who would take power after Queen Elizabeth is demonstrated in Hamlet and Shakespeare's Caesar.
#falzapham The character of Hamlet grows to be frustrating for the reader, regardless of the dramatic irony, Hamlet's indecisiveness in acting on his promise when Claudius' acts appear obvious to the reader degrade Hamlet as effeminate and a coward instead of thoughtful.
@storrens09#falzchron7 her lack of power is perpetuated by her life after being exiled, instead of abandoning her cultural expectations she spends roughly the next two decades writing Bayardo still subservient to the wishes of a man.
@haleyhbhs#falzchron7 is a world of possibilities opened to her? Angela's exile, beating, and a subsequent couple of decades spent writing to Bayardo in many ways are characterized not by infinite possibilities, but a return to a subservient role as a desperate lover..
@amatinho1@haleyhbhs#falzchron7 Religion seems insignificant in the novel with the exception of the arrival of the Bishop, which too seems insignificant with its passing
@kintropea#falzchron7 how does Santiago break the gender roles? much of the book leads us to believe that Santiago did not commit adultery with Angela, and many of his qualities are shown to be identical to other men of the culture including the Vicario brothers!!!
@amatinho1@stubhs @rmcgriskin7 #falzchron7 the honor of the town if tied to Catholicism, then also suffered from the inconsequential passing by of the bishop, this seemed to be more of a fateful event that practically cursed the events of the town, but it may have also degraded the town's moral standing.
#falzchron7 was the Vicario brothers' actions a result of animals instincts? or would it be argued that the twins were acting in response to their culture of honor and paternalism, which is a very human quality? @haleyhbhs
@kintropea#falzchron7 interesting, if true, how should the reader interpret the punishment and apprehension of the Vicario brothers, the town seems to be in shock after the murder, and talks about the event for years, but the Vicario brothers seem to get off pretty easily?
@rmcgriskin7 #falzchron7 the admiring of honor in the Columbian society appears to be more of an excuse than a literal respect for honor, while the town's people clearly respect the perseverance of a family's honor, honor as an excuse for watching the murder has little connection to culture.
@haleyhbhs#falzfrome7 aspects such as the narration being from a unamed third party only recounting a story from other sources, or the wintery setting of the story, or Ethan's own perception on the world and its abstraction removes!
@kintropea#falzfrome7 I agree with @francescatann5, Ethan had been contemplating just running away with Mattie, if he had courage he would have acted on it, suicide was a way to abandon his problems, a way to run.
