Mileva Marić, born #OnThisDay in 1875, was a Serbian physicist and the first wife of Albert Einstein. She was one of the few women who studied physics at the Zurich Polytechnic in the late 19th century, where she met Einstein. They collaborated on several scientific projects and exchanged many letters about physics.
Some historians have argued that Marić contributed significantly to Einstein’s groundbreaking work, especially the Annus Mirabilis papers of 1905, which included the theory of special relativity. They point to the evidence of their joint work, such as the use of the pronoun “we” in some of Einstein’s letters, the similarity of their handwriting in some manuscripts, and the fact that Einstein transferred the Nobel Prize money to Marić after their divorce.
However, other scholars have disputed this claim, saying that there is no conclusive proof that Marić had any direct or substantial input to Einstein’s scientific discoveries. They argue that the collaboration between the couple was limited to their student years, and that Einstein was the sole author of his published papers. They also note that Marić did not pursue an academic career after failing her diploma exam in 1900, and that she suffered from depression and ill health for most of her life.
Therefore, the extent of Marić’s contributions to Einstein’s work remains a controversial and unresolved question in the history of science.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
