Smartphones would be good, but the problem also seems to be the software side with device specific drivers or firmware ๐ We either need standards or modular software components too ๐ค
When we say we're remaking consumer electronics, we mean all of it (eventually). What products beyond laptops do you want to see upgradeable, customizable, repairable versions of?
@sil@m_wimpress Fastmail would be perfect if the data was hosted in Europe and you could pay in ยฃ or โฌ. Which then makes things like https://t.co/KPm2Uc9wu2 or mailfence interesting to compare ๐ค
@m_wimpress I've been investigating the same thing and currently stuck choosing between @Mailfence@mailbox_org@Fastmail@runbox they all seem to have advantages and disadvantages ๐ I will be interested what you choose ๐
@m_wimpress @bil_moussaoui @sil@DaniElainaFore ... but is a stretch goal after the first stage of the rework of the website etc https://t.co/EGfyLXtXht
@m_wimpress @bil_moussaoui @sil@DaniElainaFore I believe this is wanted in the future "It would be great if the developer portal also allowed developers who had proven control/authority over a certain app to manage flat-manager credentials, so that we can start to accept binary uploads from verified developers" ...
@sil@popey@m_wimpress@DaniElainaFore Note that I believe publishing is batched to help load on the server, you can see in the ansible playbook that publishing should be done every 3 hours I think ? https://t.co/ATOFcFNGWf
@popey Does this make us closer to the "year of the Linux desktop" ? ๐๐ Hopefully there will be an improved desktop experience in the coming years ๐
@mattdm Yes, the Google account to sign into evolution / nautilus (mail, calendar, contacts, files). And the nextcloud one for files in nautilus. And the imap one for evolution for mail. I could also see the Microsoft and exchange ones being useful :-)
@mhall119@JamesHenstridge@probonopd@popey @Matt_Fantinel @BrodieOnLinux@m_wimpress@BaronPixel What if the host OS started using the runtime from flatpak/snap to build the DE? ๐ค On something minimal like Ubuntu core, fedora coreos, or opensuse microos it seems curious ๐ค I wasn't sure if endless OS were already sharing ostree with the host and using the same libs ๐
