This is the longest clip I've ever posted. It's D-Day so I wanted to post this sequence, but every time I chose a place to cut, I thought "I can't cut it here. It would be too abrupt, and it's too good." This went on and on until it ended up at eighteen minutes.
Eighteen minutes is probably the bare minimum amount of time we should take to honor those men who made the ultimate sacrifice eighty-two years ago, not just men from the United States, but also men from Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Free France, Netherlands, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Southern Rhodesia (modern Zimbabwe).
The largest amphibious invasion in human history began in the dark.
At dawn on June 6, 1944, nearly 7,000 vessels carrying 160,000 Allied troops closed in on the beaches of Normandy.
Through courage and sacrifice, they secured a foothold in Nazi-occupied France and began the liberation of Western Europe.
Today, we honor the heroes of D-Day.
