At #SyriaConf2024 the 🌍 community proved again that the people in Syria, Syrian refugees and their hosting communities are not forgotten.
In support, we we have raised a total €7.5 B (€5 B in grants and €2.5 B in loans).
The EU & MS together pledged 3/4 of the total grants.
I commend the initiative in favour of @UNRWA, an indispensable lifeline in Gaza and in the region.
All EU donors have now resumed their support to the Agency, still in critical financial situation.
We have to step up our support; the needs are only growing.
🇪🇺EU commits €896 million in humanitarian & development funding for #Sudan & the region
With 24.8 million people in need of humanitarian aid, at today's #SudanConference, co-hosted with 🇫🇷France & 🇩🇪Germany, the EU & Member States pledged €896 million⤵️https://t.co/SPYtNXaDFP
.@UNOCHA asked some Palestinian photojournalists to share photos from the past 6 months in Gaza that they want the world to never forget.
Here’s what they sent us. Shocking, sobering and heartbreaking.
No one can pretend that they didn’t know.
Gazan children and infants are dying of malnutrition. Substantial and urgent efforts are required to immediately end hunger as an instrument of war in Gaza.
The international community has repeatedly called for more humanitarian aid to enter into #Gaza notably to prevent famine including through two binding @UN Council Resolutions.
Israel’s announcement to reopen temporarily the #Erez crossing point as well as to allow aid to enter through the #Ashdod port is not enough.
We recall Israel's obligation under #IHL to protect humanitarian workers at all times❗️
Joint Statement by @JosepBorrellF and myself on the killing of humanitarian workers in #Gaza ⤵️

It’s long time overdue to stop the slaughter of innocent civilians and humanitarian workers.
There should be an investigation and the perpetrators held accountable.
@WCKitchen
I pay tribute to the @WCKitchen staff members killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza.
I condemn the attack and urge an investigation.
Despite all the demands to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, we see new innocent casualties.
Devastated by the killing of 7 humanitarian workers in #Gaza when their convoy was reportedly hit by the Israeli Forces.
The @WCK provides much needed food assistance to a starving population. Humanitarian workers are #NotATarget .
My deepest condolences to @WCK & families of those killed @chefjoseandres
Attempts to sideline @UNRWA must stop.
UNRWA is the backbone of the humanitarian operation in Gaza. Any effort to distribute aid without them is simply doomed to fail.
No other agency has the same reach, experience or community trust needed to do the job.
Security Council #UNSC Resolution 2728, "demanding an immediate ceasefire," is legally binding and #Israel must accept and carry out the decision, despite #US contestation of the @CIJ_ICJ 1971 Namibia Advisory Opinion which clearly established "mandatory language."
End of @UN 5C session, #EU calls on to ensure the proper delivery of all mandates, and welcomes the adoption of several resolutions, including the much needed funding for the Institution on Missing Persons in Syria.
According to @WFPChief McCain, enough food for the people starving in #Gaza is stockpiled & waiting to enter through land routes. Airdrops help, but cannot replace hundreds of trucks. #EUCO & #UNSC asked for increased urgent & safe humanitarian access. Allowing it is a legal duty
I welcome the adoption of today’s #UNSC Res 2728 on #Gaza.
It demands an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan, leading to a lasting one, unconditional release of all hostages & emphasises the need to expand flow of aid & protect civilians
It needs an urgent implementation by all
I have urged Israel to lift all impediments on aid to #Gaza. Now this - MORE impediments. UNRWA is the beating heart of the humanitarian response in Gaza. The decision to block its food convoys to the north only pushes thousands closer to famine. It must be revoked.
Today I saw long lines of blocked relief trucks waiting to be let into Gaza.
It’s time to truly flood Gaza with life-saving aid.
The choice is clear: surge or starvation.
Let’s choose the side of help, the side of hope & the right side of history.
I will not give up.
Children in north Gaza are already dying of malnutrition and dehydration.
Every minute counts in providing more humanitarian aid to save lives, and partners like @UNICEF and @WFP are at the ready.
We need a humanitarian ceasefire NOW.
The imminent famine in the northern part of Gaza is an entirely manmade disaster.
I repeat my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
We must act now to prevent the unthinkable, the unacceptable, the unjustifiable.
A generation of young people grew up in solidarity with South Africa's struggle for equality– I, among them.
As we mark 30 years of democracy, I honour those killed in peaceful protest against apartheid.
