Working collaboratively to inform wildlife conservation in Adirondack Park and northern NY @sunyesf @Roosevelt_ESF @PSCNatSci. @NEWildNet collaborator.
It’s the season for checking and deploying new #cameratraps. Check out some of the places where we’re working in Adirondack Park - from Wilderness Areas to working forests on Conservation Easement lands. @PSCNatSci@sunyesf@Roosevelt_ESF@NEWildNet
@NEWildNet 3/3 This set-up allows the camera to be independent of the tree, yet maintain security. Theft isn’t likely in these areas, but why gamble with a @ReconyxInc!? Which btw, has become our go to #cameratrap in these harsh environments. Hope this thread was helpful!
1/3 Recently deployed some #cameratraps with some minor test tweaks to our protocol. Not groundbreaking, but perhaps useful for others dealing with similar issues.
@NEWildNet 2/2 other moving vegetation, trigger 10s of thousands of images. Solution: careful site selection in open gaps that minimize moving branches and mounting the camera on a u-post, coupled with a tree for placing the security cable.
We just released the model to extract snow depth from snow pole images! 🥳Paper: https://t.co/7OMD3dgvPL . Big big thank you to my fellow coauthors @LauraPrugh, Carrie Vuyovich @space_potato, Ryan Currier @wcurrier, & Zhongqi Miao, as well as @NASAGoddard@cv4ecology
👀 Check out this #newpaper using #cameratraps and SEM to show complex direct and indirect effects of industrial disturbance on the "caribou community", reinforcing the need to address habitat degradation as the root cause of threatened species declines and ecosystem change
To cluster wildlife cameras or not? Recent research suggests Yes!

Yes! @NEWildNet has been working hard for the past decade to provide monitoring data for Canada lynx conservation in the Northeastern U.S. using a network of #cameratraps. Keep up the great work @alexejpksiren and NEWMN cooperators!
Did you know that Canada lynx are also found in the US? The Canada lynx has benefitted from successful reintroductions back into states like CO, but may be threatened by climate change. Learn more about the importance of Canada lynx as a keystone species & what threats they face.
Moose populations in New York and New England face an uncertain future due to climate change, increasing deer populations, and parasite impacts. @AIMcameratrap and @NEWildNet collaborators are working hard to collect monitoring data across this landscape. @sunyesf@Roosevelt_ESF
I am seeking a PhD student to investigate Habitat, Connectivity, and Climate Resilience of Conifer Forest Carnivores and Key Prey in the Southern Rocky Mountains of northern New Mexico. With @wildlandsnetwrk

@alexejpksiren @RolandKays@marcellajkelly@cole_burton@drnyc_awe If you’re looking to avoid having to prepare, store, and manage the strength of skunk lure, I would go with Gusto and/or Carman’s Canine Call. Both are excellent call lures. Looking forward to seeing some amazing images!
