@KirklandJ2022@ConnectSDGs What a great resource! I plan on using visual prompts such as picture books to promote discussion around #sdg12. This will promote 21st century skills such as collaboration and communication.
@KirklandJ2022@TheGlobalGoals I agree Jared. I plan on focusing on #sdg12 for my unit. Focusing on one goal at a time helps students get the most out of them! This also allows you to focus on specific aspects of the goal that your students are interested in! What aspect of #sdg15 are you focusing on?
"Ecobricks are a way to take advantage of plastic's pros while protecting against its cons."
Have you heard of Ecobricks? This website explores their different functions and advantages. How could you use ecobricks?

@MissRCoops Thanks for sharing Ruby! The general capabilities are important as they equip students with vital skills to live in the 21st century. What a great benefit of project based learning!
#ProjectBasedLearning is a great way to promote #21stcentury thinking skills. By making furniture out of recycled materials, students will engage in problem solving and critical thinking skills in my unit. What benefits of project based learning have you seen? #UoNteach#educ4750
What is Project Based Learning? Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. Learn more here! https://t.co/w0S1cWb9S8

@jacobannanUON This is definitely important to remember when planning a unit of work! Students should always be the centre of learning. Using CBP is a great way to achieve this.
Community based pedagogy increase student engagement and promotes deeper understanding of content (Sharkey, Clavijo Olarte & Ramirez, 2016). I will use #CBP by including parents in the recycling process of the unit plan. How can CBP be used in your unit plan? #UoNteach#educ4750
@Jemma_taylor3 Yes I agree! By having students work in small groups to design and create hexagonal thinking charts, collaboration and communication skills are developed.
What a great way to explore #SDG12! Hexagonal thinking engages students in #collaborative and #criticalthinking skills while providing literacy and numeracy opportunities in the classroom! How can you promote critical thinking? #UoNteach#educ4750
https://t.co/PFuKhOGzk3
@MissRCoops Thanks Ruby these are some great suggestions! Inquiry based learning is a great way to maximise students learning and understanding! I will definitely be looking into this more for my unit plan.
@MissRCoops Wow what a great resource! This would be such a great way to engage students in learning about the sustainable development goals. I plan on using minecraft education’s resource ‘sustainable city’ to incorporate #ict in my unit plan. Check it out! https://t.co/2QjLPQPABs
@jacobannanUON Yes so true! The pictures in these books would allow for students at any age to reflect and discuss their own experiences of sustainability!
Wow! Simple but effective. These are some great #literacy resources that encourage us to help save the environment. Have you shared these with your students? #UoNTeach#educ4750#sdg12
@ginderbyne Yes! This would be so beneficial. We can do this by having the teaching students how to use the different bins such as the red, yellow and green lid bins in classrooms.
I love this idea of participating in Global Recycling Day. What a great opportunity to collaboratively work together and learn about recycling!
How else could we use our waste to practice the three R's? #reduce#reuse#recycle#UoNteach#educ4750
P4 decided they’d like to recycle what they could from our litter pick today! We decided to collect in 3 different bags - non-recyclable, cardboard/paper/plastic bottles & crisp packets! What a lot of litter!!!! #article24#article6#article27#SDG12#SDG13#RecyclingHeroes
@jacobannanUON I find that I always learn better through visual cues. Johnson (2020) states that learning can allow for students to retain information easily. I plan on using graphics and posters in my unit plan to make learning more effective!
@MissRCoops Such a great way to promote sustainability! I know that Garden Suburb Public School aims to reduce their waste footprint by having 'Totally Trash Free Tuesday'. Using reusable items for school lunches would be a great way to to achieve this.
@jacobannanUON Yes so true! By involving the wider community such as parents, student’s learning is more relevant. I plan on involving parents in my unit plan by having them bring in items from home which will be used throughout the unit.
@Darren046172321 Yes I remember having those in my primary school as well! I plan on expanding on this idea to teach students about the the different types of recycling practices.
Did you know today is Global Recycling Day? This is a great way to reduce waste and and promote the benefits of recycling. What are some ways our schools could participate in this? #UoNteach#educ4750#SDG12
https://t.co/yHP1c0JT0l
On March 18, Global Recycling Day will take place. Cities across the globe are coming together to encourage people to think of recycling as “resource” not “waste”. https://t.co/ZkzkIMa3rp
Did you know about these myths about waste? This #ICT resource busts common misconceptions about waste. A great way to teach students about waste from the City of Newcastle professionals! What are some myths you didn’t know about waste?#UoNTeach#educ4750
https://t.co/dD8HTjgLxV
@Jemma_taylor3 Wow what a great resource, thanks Jemma! I think Seagull by Danny Snell would be such a great literacy resource to teach students about sustainability.
This is a great resource about how plastic has an innate effect on the environment. This a great addition to the unit plan. What literacy sources have you seen being taught on this issue? #UoNteach#educ4750
@Claudiaa5200 Wow, these are great ways to teach PBL! For my unit on sustainability, students will collect and bring in recyclable items from home to build furniture for the school! This allows them to solve a real world challenge. There are so many benefits to project based learning 🤩
@Jemma_taylor3 Yes such a great idea! Another benefit of using De Bono’s 6 thinking hats is that students can look at a topic from different perspectives! I think this would be a great addition to the unit plan to explicitly teach problem solving skills.
@B_Elise93 So true! I plan on taking my students to Summerhill Waste Management to promote further investigation about what happens to our waste. This supports place based learning of #sdg12 through engagement through local community members and assets.
@KirklandJ2022 What a great read! I plan on using the 4 C’s in my unit by having students work together to design a poster on the benefits of recycling ♻️. This will encourage students to participate and act as global citizens.
