There are so many different roles in the data domain. Deciding which role is best for you depends on your preferences.
One dimension you can look at these roles is what percent is spent building infrastructure versus digging into the data to find issues.

I use this definition of an Insight for my team: “Information that is new to the recipient, is true, and which once comprehended and accepted is useful to act on.” This chart is essentially the inverse of that, just needs “incomprehensible” and “unbelievable” added.
Engineering is orthogonal to the skill of getting things done at large orgs. It’s actually closer to sales — your job is to demonstrate value to those in your way and to get enough momentum to make your project hard to kill.
