Many of you know from my podcast episodes and social media posts that my husband is the president of the Orange County Rescue Mission, a faith-based residential program that helps get people off the streets and back to work over 1-2 years.

OCRM has been recognized nationally for its successful model in the area of addressing homelessness. Secular homeless services overwhelmingly operate from a philosophy of "housing first," but programs like that of OCRM work to address root causes in order to set people up for long term independence and flourishing--not simply putting a roof over someone's head while addictions and/or mental illness continue untreated.

This week, the Trump administration unveiled a new best practices toolkit based on a “Treatment First” model, which prioritizes getting people accountability-driven drug treatment and sobriety as preconditions for housing assistance. As part of the roll-out, HUD Secretary Scott Turner and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. visited 3 model, faith-based programs already operating under this kind of philosophy. OCRM was one of the selected programs, and Bryan had the pleasure of personally taking the two Secretaries for a tour this week! It was quite an event.
