I'm just guessing he thought it was a stump or something that he could break his club on and it ended up being the sprinkler. He was embarrassed, and appeared to be a mistake. I think a DQ is too much.

I'm just saying when you play golf for a living I'm sure you get frustrated more than your weekend golfer. If he hit the sprinkler on purpose then sure, DQ him.

It's not a club throw and it's not even that egregious. It just looks bad because there happened to be a sprinkle right where he slammed the club. I just think DQ is reactionary.
