@PhDForum That said, it’s tricky if you want to finish the project and the money isn’t there. Talk to your department about teaching opportunities and other funding, and your institution might also have other emergency funding measures you can apply for.
@PhDForum No, it’s not normal and doing so is a reflection of one of the many problems of academia. It was your advisor’s job to plan, budget and fund the project appropriately--you are not to blame.
