A while back, I wrote an essay as an attempt to speak to a relative who died before I was born.
Here it is, with thanks to the editors, in @redividermag

Our new spring issue is live! Full of many great pieces—learn some lessons in smoking, or maybe take a look at past and future exhibits at the mutter museum. Or, read about the house that’s taken over.

My short story “Preservation,” is in the new @BarcelonaReview. It’s about denial, two old houses, an obscure mural lost to time, & more:

@MrHWM helpful language for a thing i spend lots of time thinking about. writing “events” often feels artificial: “okay, lemme inject some *drama* right… here.” i’m pondering ways to sort of embed needed “events” in the text - to weave them into a atmospheric/tonal fabric
@MrHWM & Steinbeck was contemporary to Faulkner/ Hemingway. the latter two are so present in convos, i’d say largely for being prose stylists. but Steinbeck, whom i see as more a pure storyteller, is overlooked. all 3 are great, but interesting to ponder reasons for the diff legacies
My short story "The Smoke of the Land Went Up" is in @GuernicaMag today. It's got sex, drugs, pedicabbing, a landscaping convention, and lots of dread.
Huge thanks to editors @autumn_watts, @adalva, and Ishita Marwah for getting this out into the world.
