It’s time for everyone to realize that the fight against data centers has nothing to do with data centers.
They have become a proxy for the hate towards AI and the concentration and accumulation of wealth it’s creating.
Until those running the big LLMs understand this and start a community tour, not to explain the benefits of AI, it’s too late for that, but to help towns and cities that may be impacted by job losses (and I’m a believer their will be a net gains in a few years), this battle is only going to get more intense and let me tell you now , no matter how much money you pay to buy politicians and races, you will lose.
One thing I have learned is being hated is not good for business.
How can they help ? They will tell you. You will need to do what they ask. Billions of dollars is a lot of money across towns and city programs. Across the major LLMs, it’s a cost of doing business.
At the same time, I would go to LA and NYC and ask the arts and creative unions what kind of programs would help and protect their artists. DO NOT GO TO THE MUSIC OR FILM COMPANIES. that will make it worse.
Don’t try to pay famous people to endorse what you are doing. That’s dumb.
Talk to artists and ask them what you can do to provide financial and creative support. Every creative I know is TERRIFIED about what AI will do to their profession. You must meet them face to face and basically do what they say.
The big LLMs have lost the PR battle. Why ? Because they all suck at putting people first. They have an SV attitude that makes them all think they are John Galt saving the
world
Given the number of data centers and power that is needed, today and going forward , If you don’t kiss the asses of the people that go to work every day, and are just trying to pay their bills, you will fall far far short of the capacity you need to make your business work.
@clbolt Which fees?
I think application fees and membership fees are the only ones that go to CC (20% ish). These costs are fairly minimal overall.
We find CC relatively affordable (1 income, 4 kids); especially if you're able to jump in as a tutor to offset costs.
I am honestly stunned. Seriously. I talked to someone this past Sunday with knowledge of what is going on in Dallas, and this article confirms what I was told at various points.
Now, I don't go up to all the speakers at events I am involved in and ask them, "So, are you actually a member of a church?" I assume it. I had heard of his preaching at a church in Dallas, so the rest just came along with the job.
But if it is fully confirmed that he was not, in fact, a pastor...anywhere, and was not, in fact, a member of any church, anywhere, then he was not under any biblical authority. He answered, ecclesiastically, to no one. And, evidently, that's the issue now as well.
How did this happen? In this particular case, I have no idea. I know that many who regularly had him speak are firm and convinced churchmen, so I can only assume that I am not the only one surprised to learn this. But there is, certainly, a general malaise amongst evangelicals concerning ecclesiology and ecclesiastical authority. This situation has certainly thrown a spotlight on that reality.
The really sad part of this is that we may be left with no resolution exactly because the biblical pattern has been ignored. There can be no restoration of the Lone Ranger, or in this case, the Lone Preacher. And in the same vein, surely the elders in Dallas were completely aware, were they not, that Lawson was not one of them? Was not a covenanted member of that church? No wonder there has been such a challenge for them to deal with...a non-member! So why would a non-member regularly preach?
I remember, so very clearly, in my youth, a situation at a very large "mega church" where the preacher was the main attraction, but the actual ministry of "pastoring" was minimized. If you were in the hospital, you would surely not be seeing the "big guy." Others dealt with those situations. I will tell you this: that impacts the preaching to a massive depth. It really does.
Now, I honestly can't think of a parallel situation to Lawson today, can you? I mean, there are only so many "A" list speakers (I am more of a low B, upper C type guy myself). But everyone knows where I am a church member, and where I am a pastor. But are there any questions about any of the "A" listers? Might be time to find out! Might be good for all conferences to ask, "Where is your covenanted church membership?" Same for colleges, seminaries, etc.!
Children are not parasites.
Children are not resource-suckers.
Children are blessings.
Children are resources.
Our culture gets children wrong because they get people wrong: People are the greatest resource on earth.
A single person can change everything.
OK, I just have to say…all of a sudden all the leftists are turning on Biden and calling for him to not run for President. I just saw a guy making a video going, “Wait, this means…someone else has been running the country all along!” Seriously? You all are just waking up to the obvious truth that at least some of us have been pointing to for years? You can go back in the archives: I said Biden was mentally incompetent while running in 2020. I said I couldn’t believe he could make it through the election process assuming that process was even semi fair and accurate (it wasn’t and you will never convince me otherwise). But now, all of a sudden, a single 90 minute debate instantly has everyone convinced of his dementia?
I’m sorry, I don’t buy it. The people in the regime knew he was a sock puppet from the day he took the oath of office. They have been covering it up, drugging him up, spinning things, for years. They knew he could never be the candidate this year. So why all the smoke and mirrors and constant lies (including the lies of the Liar in Chief, Jill Biden)? These people have power, they are cooperating with our enemies to destroy us from within, and they intend to keep that power. So, how to do it? They want another radical sock puppet in the Oval Office to finish the job of gutting the US, economically, militarily, ethically. But such sock puppets struggle with getting elected. They have to be so radical that it stresses their vote-production systems to make up the votes needed. So…this is their solution. Have Biden pull out before the convention in August and bring in a ringer they don’t have to get elected at all in the primaries. A “savior” to take the place of their suddenly discovered dementia-addled leader. How kind! How wonderful! No one will question the need to do this in light of the sudden crash in Biden’s health, which of course, was not sudden at all.
I am not an expert on a scholarly level of the actions of the Soviets as in being able to teach on the topic on the under graduate level, but I have done enough reading to be able to recognize the patterns that marked the repressive regimes in the Eastern Bloc in the not too distant past. The deception, the lies, the utter disregard for law, ethics, morality, honesty. And this is what we have now as the once great United States succumbs to its own demise and enslavement. The communists would look into the grainy TV cameras of the day and lie through their teeth to their own people. And their people knew they were being lied to as well. But it didn’t matter. The Party’s story was all important. And so it is again, in 2024, in America.
Wall-E is celebrated, or dismissed, as environmentalist propaganda. But it's doing something much more interesting.
It subverts its surface-level message and glorifies Man's dominion over creation.
Once you read this, you'll never look at Wall-E the same way again.
THREAD
Well, I realize this post may "stir the pot" somewhat, and I'll brace for the responses! Should Christians send their kids to public schools? Now firstly I want to say it's the parent's decision as to where they send their kids to be educated. And I do recognize in a fallen world there are all sorts of family issues (eg: single parent families) for varied reasons.
However, at the very minimum, each Christian should build their thinking on God's Word in regard to the training of children, and do the best they possible can, with much prayer & God's help and hopefully the help of God's people in the church, to attain to what God instructs as much as we are able.
From God's Word we do get answers to: Who owns children? Parents & ultimately God. Who is responsible for the education of children? Parents, & in particular Fathers as the spiritual head. What is the priority of education? Spiritual/biblical worldview. What should we understand about children? They are not miniature adults & they have a sin nature. What warnings are there? Bad company corrupts bad character.
Many people in the church have told me their kids should be in the public school to witness to other kids. But what's the biblical basis for this? When I ask, I'm usually told, "we are to be light and salt in this world." Yes, true, but one can only shine light if one has it to shine. Yes, Matthew 5:13 states "you are the salt of the earth," but Mark 9:50 also states, "Have salt in yourselves."
Your kids can't be salt till they have salt. And by salt it means they are to be filled with biblical truth, but also prepared with answers (1 Peter 3:15) to be able to withstand the attacks of the devil in the world they live in. That's why @AiG provides all sorts of curricula for churches & homes to help raise generations filled with biblical truth & equipped to defend the Christian faith against the attacks of our day.
Now Scripture also warns in Matthew 5:13, that "But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." In other words, contamination destroys.
Before our kids can be a witness to the world, they need to be filled with salt, as uncontaminated as possible, to know what they believe and why and be equipped to defend their faith.
Let's face it, most of the public school system indoctrinates kids for 6 or so hours a day in the secular worldview of evolutionary naturalism & sexual humanism. Most churched kids have not survived the public education system and have walked away from the church. Very few exceptional kids from church homes survive and are able to be salt and light. Most become severely contaminated. This is reflected in the fact there's been a massive generational loss from the church.
Bottom line, are you putting your own kids at risk from contamination because you want them in the system to witness to others? But how much have parents & the church really made sure such kids are truly filled with salt to be able to do this? Most churches have not taught apologetics and most have compromised God's Word in Genesis, opening the door for that contamination to take hold. Most father's have not been the spiritual head of their house as they should. Look at the evidence, most of the younger generations have walked away from the church. Generation Z is the first post-Christian generation & very atheistic in worldview.
Remember, when your kids are born, they don't know about the bible, or Adam and Eve, or sin, or the promise of the Savior, or the Flood, or Babel, or the cross, or resurrection, or the saving gospel, or how to answer the attacks of our day. Our job as parents is make sure they are taught and equipped so they can impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ. Where are your kids spiritually? What legacy are you leaving in the younger generations? Who really has the greatest educational impact on your kids and grandkids?
@JackPosobiec Yes. Microbial decomposition of leaves and other organic matter will produce a floating sheen to the water as well.
It's not likely caused by pollution.
