Jon Hamm's entire life ran a decade behind schedule, and it kept working out.

Then came 2015. The show ended, his 18-year relationship ended, and he went through rehab, all within months of each other. The final episode of Mad Men put Don Draper at a retreat in Big Sur, where a young actress played the receptionist who checks him in.

Five years later, they started dating. In June 2023 he married her, at 52, on the exact patch of Big Sur coastline where they filmed that episode.

Now he's expecting his first child at 55, with the woman from the final scene of the show that made him.

There were some posts recently saying they wanted Apple products to become more expensive because iPhones have "lost exclusivity" and are now being used by mechanics, electricians, plumbers, gig workers and other working class people.

This is loser status anxiety.

The dream should be an India where a good mechanic can buy the latest iPhone with one or two weeks of wages, where a plumber has a 55 inch TV and a PlayStation at home, where a part-time delivery guy can save for two years and buy a compact SUV for city driving without treating it like a generational achievement.

Being a young wagie in a major metro means participating in a massive wealth transfer from your labour to your landlord.

The entire urban economy is designed to extract maximum value from early career professionals while offering zero long term security.

The older generation looks at young men spending their disposable income on protein powder and decent clothes and labels them wasteful, completely missing the point.

When you cannot afford to buy a house or start a family, you invest whatever little you have into immediate physical reality. Physical aesthetics and gym numbers are the only metrics where effort still linearly correlates with outcome.
