Der Israel-Hass an der @berlinale kommt nicht aus dem luftleeren Raum. Das Filmfestival feiert propalästinensischen Aktivismus, die Filmkunst ist zweitrangig.

Ten months ago, we launched the Vesuvius Challenge to solve the ancient problem of the Herculaneum Papyri, a library of scrolls that were flash-fried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Today we are overjoyed to announce that our crazy project has succeeded. After 2000 years, we can finally read the scrolls:
This image was produced by @Youssef_M_Nader, @LukeFarritor, and @JuliSchillij, who have now won the Vesuvius Challenge Grand Prize of $700,000. Congratulations!!
These fifteen columns come from the very end of the first scroll we have been able to read and contain new text from the ancient world that has never been seen before. The author – probably Epicurean philosopher Philodemus – writes here about music, food, and how to enjoy life's pleasures. In the closing section, he throws shade at unnamed ideological adversaries – perhaps the stoics? – who "have nothing to say about pleasure, either in general or in particular."
This year, the Vesuvius Challenge continues. The text that we revealed so far represents just 5% of one scroll.
In 2024, our goal is to from reading a few passages of text to entire scrolls, and we're announcing a new $100,000 grand prize for the first team that is able to read at least 90% of all four scrolls that we have scanned.
The scrolls stored in Naples that remain to be read represent more than 16 megabytes of ancient text. But the villa where the scrolls were found was only partially excavated, and scholars tell us that there may be thousands more scrolls underground. Our hope is that the success of the Vesuvius Challenge catalyzes the excavation of the villa, that the main library is discovered, and that whatever we find there rewrites history and inspires all of us.
It's been a great joy to work on this strange and amazing project. Thanks to Brent Seales for laying the foundation for this work over so many years, thanks to the friends and Twitter users whose donations powered our effort, and thanks to the many contestants whose contributions have made the Vesuvius Challenge successful!

"There are 17 young females still being held hostage. One of them is my girl, Naama. And time is running out."
The Woman in the Hamas Video Is My Daughter:
https://t.co/aUaImISW8b
"I saw the terrorists bending her over, raping her, and passing her on to the next. She was alive when they raped her. She was on her feet and bleeding from her back.
He pulled her hair. He shot her in the head while raping her, didn't even lift his pants. They cut off her breast and played with it."
^ A first-hand account of rape and mutilation perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th, provided to police by a female witness and subsequently reported in @thetimes and @BBCNews
Despite over 60,000 video clips and more than 1,000 witness statements, Hamas’ crimes are still ignored, downplayed, and downright denied by failed organisations like the UN, compromised politicians like Jeremy Corbyn, and biased journalists like Owen Jones. Shame on them.
I will continue to use this platform to call out the brutal attacks and gang rapes of Hamas. Thank you to everyone who stands up to these monsters.
Together with women around the world, we say no to rape. Remember. The body of Shani Louk on the lorry, with these horrible Hamas men spitting on her and shouting Allahu Akbar, is the most horrible thing. As a woman, as a mother, as a human being and a politician, I felt a deep disgust when I heard the silence of so many powerful people after these October 7 crimes.
The crime of these girls in Hamas eyes? Existing. Being Jewish, going to a festival. Shani Louk was young, she wanted to enjoy her life. Instead her life ended in the hands of Hamas. She was thrown onto this lorry, and we saw Hamas men dragging her half-naked with this lorry around and spitting on her, shouting “Allah Akbar”. For me, this image is worth more than 1,000 investigations, this image is stronger than 1,000 words, this image says it all. She and all others were someone’s daughters. How could the world let them down?
Anyone who isn’t outraged and doesn’t stand up to what we’ve seen, frankly I don’t know whether that person deserves to be called a feminist or a humanist, but it’s a betrayal. It’s a betrayal of the cause of women and it’s a betrayal of all Jews, it’s a betrayal of humanity.
For all the women and girls I joined forces with other women around the world to call for justice. This is our message.
For the hostages to return home. For justice. Stop rape. Bring the rapists to justice. #UnitedWeStand
The presidents of @Harvard, @MIT, and @Penn were all asked the following question under oath at today’s congressional hearing on antisemitism:
Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate [your university’s] code of conduct or rules regarding bullying or harassment?
The answers they gave reflect the profound moral bankruptcy of Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth.
Representative @EliseStefanik was so shocked with the answers that she asked each of them the same question over and over again, and they gave the same answers over and over again.
In short, they said:
It ‘depends on the context’ and ‘whether the speech turns into conduct,’ that is, actually killing Jews.
This could be the most extraordinary testimony ever elicited in the Congress, certainly on the topic of genocide, which to remind us all is:
“the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group”
The presidents’ answers reflect the profound educational, moral and ethical failures that pervade certain of our elite educational institutions due in large part to their failed leadership.
Don’t take my word for it.
You must watch the following three minutes. By the end, you will be where I am.
They must all resign in disgrace.
If a CEO of one of our companies gave a similar answer, he or she would be toast within the hour.
Why has antisemitism exploded on campus and around the world?
Because of leaders like Presidents Gay, Magill and Kornbluth who believe genocide depends on the context.
To think that these are the leaders of Ivy League institutions that are charged with the responsibility to educate our best and brightest.
On the bright side, our congressional leaders deserve accolades for showing tremendous leadership and moral clarity in their statements, by the questions they asked, and the respectfulness with which they conducted the hearing.
It was a masterclass of how our government and democracy should operate.
If you have time, please watch the entire hearing. Throughout the hearing, the three behaved like hostile witnesses, exhibiting a profound disdain for the Congress with their smiles and smirks, and their outright refusal to answer basic questions with a yes or no answer.

This is how I feel too. We have miraculously clawed our way out of tyrannical oppression and you think typing mean words on your phone will deter us?
Reminder: I was forced to marry a terrorist at the age of 19. I was buried in black cloth and restricted in the home where I was cook, cleaner, and sex slave.
I escaped all that with my young daughter on my hip and nothing but a high school diploma.
Go ahead and send all the vitriol and threats you want. I’ll add it to my collection 🗑️
Onwards, Iranian women and every single other brave truth teller and whistleblower. We ride at dawn!

A Hamas video from a kibbutz shows terrorists torturing a pregnant woman and removing her fetus. Our forensic scientists have found bodies of women and girls raped with such violence that their pelvic bones were broken, writes Michal Herzog.
