Sure, but look who still makes bank in that commoditized airline world: the pilots. The plane's a commodity, the seat's a commodity, flying one safely is very much not.

Same deal with software. The cheaper it gets to produce, the higher the expectations climb. The bar for "useful" just moves. Turning an idea into something people actually want, and proving it holds up, is still where everything gets stuck.

(Agentic) Software Engineers are now expected to own that whole part, same way fullstack devs inherited backend, frontend, databases and devops the second fullstack became a job title.

@GergelyOrosz It’s not hype, it’s headcount math: too few engineers can truly ship production AI, so teams can’t just “hire more.” The few who can end up working longer/harder to keep pace with the competition: hence the mind boggling premiums and equity.
