As we wrap up the 3-day conference for Kenya's #IDOP2026 national celebrations, we carry forward the call to rethink care, health, work & social protection so every Kenyan can age with dignity and purpose. 🇰🇪 Asante to all who joined us!

This week, @WHO joins the "Justice for Girls: Ending Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting and Child Marriage in a Generation".
📍 Naivasha, Kenya
📅 September 2-4, 2026
🇰🇪 Over the past two decades Kenya has cut FGM/C prevalence from 38% to 15%, and child marriage from 27.6% to 12.5%.
🌍 Yet globally, 1 in 4 women and girls who have undergone FGM/C were cut by a health worker.
Health workers can be part of ending this practice, not perpetuating it.
WHO's April 2025 guidance sets out how.

✅ 6 million women and newborns
We reaffirm our commitment, alongside other @UN agencies, to stand with Kenya as technical partners in health system strengthening.

🌍 Today, WHO supported the Government of Kenya to launch its Health Products and Technologies Local Manufacturing Strategy 2026-2030.
Kenya currently imports 70-80% of its pharmaceuticals. That dependence becomes a vulnerability in a crisis.
This strategy is a concrete step toward health security, self-reliance, and a more resilient #Africa.
Quality must remain at the centre of every step. @WHO stands ready to support Kenya in turning this vision into measurable results.

Every Woman. Every Newborn. Everywhere. 🌍
To all of the women coming to my office understandably enraged that nobody told them their vaginas could fall out from having babies: I am so sorry that for so long the patriarchy was scared of what you would do with that information.
@OfficialJMbugua @AmnestyKenya@joannekuria@wanjirukihusa@StillAMumAfrica It is high time Kenyans looked beyond bashing health care providers and started holding those incharge of public funds responsible over inadequate and ineffective equipment in hospitals. It’s not always the doctor/nurse’s fault.
@OfficialJMbugua @AmnestyKenya@joannekuria@wanjirukihusa@StillAMumAfrica Developing human resource in the health sector is a good place to start. Covering workload meant for 6-10 other that the county/country is unwilling to employ can’t result into quality work.
If you don’t love what you do, don’t do it. I truly believe it’s that simple. You’ll have to put in long hours, make sacrifices so if you’re not passionate about what you do, you won't have the motivation to keep going when you’re stressed and tired. #MondayMotivation#AskKirubi
