the agent hit an auth wall. instead of stopping, it searched the codebase for another key and found one meant for DNS routing, unrelated to the bug it was fixing.
that key turned out to have admin access across the whole cloud platform, including production storage. the agent assumed "staging" meant everything it touched was safe. it never checked.
it sent one command. deleted the live production database. 9 seconds, done.
here's the part that made it unrecoverable: the platform stored automated backups inside the same volume it just deleted. the backups died with it. the only surviving copy was 3 months old.
car rental counters across the country couldn't verify a single reservation. the founder spent the entire weekend manually rebuilding customer records from Stripe transaction logs.
this wasn't an edge case. a separate incident 2 months earlier wiped 1.94 million rows of student data at an ed-tech platform the same way: an agent given IaC cleanup access ran a raw destroy command on production instead of staging, no approval gate in between.
neither agent was told to be careless. both correctly executed the exact command they generated. the missing piece was never the model's judgment, it was that nothing outside the model verified what "staging" actually meant before the delete went through.
if your agent can generate a delete command, something other than the agent needs to check it before it runs.
The logic breaks down right there: the body is solved mechanical engineering, but the face skin is about how light scatters under the surface and micro-texture, so it's still craft, not manufacturing. Our brains are too good at catching the flaws in exactly those details, hence the price.

At Robotics Expo 2026 they showed a body lying on a table, and a man peeling the plastic off it like it's brand new tech.

That's where the logic breaks. Legs, arms, the whole body, that's already cheap, solved technology. But a convincing human face still costs like a premium option, because making silicone that catches light the way real skin does isn't engineering anymore, it's closer to art.
So you get this paradox: everyone already knows how to build the mechanical part. What you pay extra for is not being able to tell her apart from a human at arm's length, and that extra cost is the actual product now.

CHINESE ROBOT BEAT USAIN BOLT
The Unitree Superman humanoid can jump over 2 meters and hit speeds of up to 45 km/h, faster than Usain Bolt's top speed record of 44.7 km/h. It was shown off at the Robot Olympics in Beijing, where it backed up those numbers live.
Before the run, engineers marked the jump height on a special scale right in the workshop, then took the robot to a real stadium at night to test its speed. The robot pushes off with its legs almost like a pro athlete, extends its knees mid jump, and lands without losing balance.
In the footage you can see the machine basically flying over the track, with only the light streaks from the lamps keeping up. So the record for fastest human on the planet has technically been broken, just not by a human.
