Unveiling the first MIURA 5 launch vehicle qualification unit!
This is the first qualification model (QM1) of our MIURA 5 orbital launch vehicle, designed to complete the validation of fully assembled subsystems ahead of flight:
✅ Second stage → After structural testing, this stage will be subject to a Destructive test to validate system´s Flight Termination System.
✅ First stage → Wet Dress Rehearsal at our own facilities of stage 1, validating the full stage feed system behaviour.
✅ Full qualification of engines, avionics, interstage and fairing.
As part of our test-like-you-fly mindset, we’ll build three units in under five months to ensure maximum reliability for MIURA 5’s maiden mission in 2026, a clear demonstration that we move fast while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Que era difícil diseñar turbobombas lo sabíamos. Y que era difícil fabricar e integrar también lo sabíamos . Ah, y también de ensayar, pero en @PLD_Space lo hacemos todo posible. Y lo hemos demostrado. Es solo cuestión de tiempo que #MIURA5 esté en la plataforma de lanzamiento. Y lo demostraremos.
Durante los pasados meses hemos estado llevando a cabo campañas extensas de ensayos de generador de gas y turbobomba para llegar a este punto. @PLD_Space ha desarrollado la turbobomba privada más potente jamás diseñada en #Europa. En breve tendremos ambos motores de ambas etapas listos para ensayo de fuego, con la calificación de ambos motores.

At our state-of-the-art facility, we manufacture all metallic structures of our launch vehicle and its TEPREL-C family engines (including combustion chambers and turbopumps). Where we combine proven industry technologies with years of heritage and cutting-edge processes like metal additive manufacturing and laser welding.
Robust end-to-end process management, with quality control integrated into each step, ensures that all engineering models reach our test benches in Teruel exactly as designed. There, we test and use the results to rapidly iterate and improve manufacturing until every subsystem is qualified.
This approach gives us the agility and flexibility to move confidently toward the first MIURA 5 test flight at CSG (CNES/ESA) in Kourou, French Guiana, delivering on our promise of reliability and performance.
@Rainmaker1973 Just to be clear, the instability of rotation about the intermediate axis was well-known before 1985. It was in most physics and engineering textbooks about free rigid body rotation. It was often referred to as the 'book toss'
