We welcome the Liberal Democrats commitment to backing youth work as official policy at their Party Conference this year.

We’re urging the Liberal Democrats to go further and commit to an #EnrichmentGuarantee – giving all young people – particularly those from marginalised backgrounds – access to 80 hours of high-quality enrichment opportunities every academic year.

Great to see @NDIronsMP backing our calls for statutory protections for youth services. In her Backbench Business Debate on long-term funding of youth services, she highlighted the need for benchmarks to ensure sufficient youth provision to give every young person the right to access youth services.

Yesterday, we were pleased to attend the @YouthAPPG discussion in parliament focused on what young people want from a National Youth Strategy.

It was great to bring along two of our Youth Consultants, Ben and Ivan, and great to see lots of Members and Deputy Members of @UKYP engaging with the discussions.

The NYSAB has been campaigning for a #NationalYouthStrategy to give youth work its rightful place at the table, together with the investment needed to build the capacity of the workforce, strengthen the evidence-base and create the policies needed to formally integrate youth work practice into wider youth strategies.

Yesterday, whilst praising youth workers, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy highlighted the current lack of youth strategy asserting: “We are determined to set that right. We will develop and coproduce a strategy for a generation of young people alongside them and working with the incredible youth workers… in order to support a generation to succeed.”

We’re delighted that the Secretary of State has committed to delivering a National Youth Strategy.

On 17 October, Lisa Nandy highlighted the troubling lack of national youth strategy and declared that the new government is ‘determined to grip this issue’. She also praised youth workers and described the youth funding decrease of 73 percent as ‘a source of national shame’.

We were delighted to join our fellow Back Youth Alliance (BYA) organisations at a drop-in event for parliamentarians today in the Houses of Parliament to champion supporting young people through youth work and the importance of youth voice.

Thank you to @NCSTrust for organising the event and to all the parliamentarians who came along. It’s great to see so much passion in the room for the BYA’s call to #BackYouth and we look forward to working together to open doors to opportunities through the power of youth work.

On the train home from an energising event with members of the #BackYouthAlliance. It was great to meet with parliamentarians across the political spectrum to talk about the importance of youth work and youth voice and to discuss our new National Youth Sector Census data.
