"The #evolution and characterization of the RNA interference pathways in #Lophotrochozoa" is finally out on @GenomeBiolEvol. During the evolution of Lophotrochozoa, proteins related to the endo-siRNA pathway have been lost. https://t.co/nqY8Hya03U

1/3 I am very excited to tell you about our latest work where we looked not only into sea anemones but also 🪸
We find in #Nematostella that stress induces not immunity, but also viral replication, actually much faster than the immune response! 🧵

1/2 You can finally have a glimpse of one of the latest projects I've been working on, with collegues from @evocom_unibo@Unibo! 🧬🐜
#biodiversity#genomics of an Italian #ant species with a pretty peculiar life history
More on our website and below https://t.co/zy2XssZvhD
SINEs in 🦪 just out in @MobDNAjournal. We identified novel SINE-LINE partnerships, shared LINE tails between different SINE superfamilies, and families shared between #bivalve species separated by hundreds of millions of years 🤯

Are you interested in mito-nuclear interactions? Take a look at our latest article! https://t.co/SCm24sQW8j! We developed a software to detect signal of mitochondrial sncRNAs modulating cell gene expression. You can also find manual and tutorials at https://t.co/SpISJnmowV!

Azooxanthellate Palythoa(Cnidaria: Anthozoa) genomes reveal toxin-related gene clusters and loss of neuronal genes in hexacorals | Genome Biology and Evolution
https://t.co/umN60X2RJK
What occurs to a trait groundplan when the trait isn't expressed anymore in the phenotype? We provided novel insight into the cryptic persistence of a lost trait molecular architecture, driven by gene pleiotropy on other traits and within their co-expression network!
The loss of these proteins during the evolution of Lophotrochozoa may have had implications for the reorganization of the innate immune system response in Trochozoa and other cellular functions related to RNA interference.

Phyla belonging to Trochozoa completely lack DICER2 and AGO1. Other phyla, like Nemertea and Bryozoa, show an intermediate state, having only AGO1. Basal phyla like flatworms and rotifers possess both proteins.
Our great work led by the Schumer lab is finally out @Nature This is some of the best evidence out there that mitonuclear interactions can lead to speciation.

Highlighted on GBE cover! Findings suggest a shared ground plan for extended #LONGEVITY across #animals. Overlooked branches in Tree of Life can provide new perspectives for aspects that have been largely restricted to model species ...
Excited to share our latest @GenomeBiolEvol#perspective on the growing importance of #bivalves in #SexDetermination studies especially in the light of comparative #genomics 🦪⚤🧬

1/3 It feels weird to post about science at such hard times, but here we go:
Major update of @AdmoniYael's preprint about miRNA-mRNA complementarity in Cnidaria: following some feedback we added experimental data from additional model species.

Our new perspective on mitochondrial #smallRNAs (smithRNAs)! smithRNAs affect cellular functions targeting nuclear mRNAs. Thanks the many secondary structures along the #mtDNA, this system may have spontaneously arisen many times in #Metazoa.
