PhD | Computational Evolutionary Biologist working on AI, viral metagenomics and phylogenomics.
Postdoc @UCalgary.
Previously @cibiocm and @fondazionemach.
Check out our latest preprint for all phage enthusiasts!
We present a novel virus discovery approach that leverages viral enrichment, enabling us to obtain a set of over 162,000 viral sequences.🧬

MSc & PhD opportunity in viromics/metagenomics in Prof. Ann Gregory’s lab at the University of Calgary.
As a postdoc, I’ve found it to be a very supportive, collaborative environment with strong mentorship. Based in Calgary near the Rockies.
Happy to chat if you have questions!
The Integrative Viromics Lab at the University of Calgary is recruiting MSc and PhD students to study viruses in lakes, glaciers, and permafrost. Strong computational skills are preferred. Send a CV and cover letter to ann.gregory[at]https://t.co/iEIme1FLmn
Back from #CSM2026 in Edmonton, inspired and full of new ideas! It was an incredible week of amazing science, engaging discussions, and new connections.
Huge thanks to the conference organizers and @PhageCanada for making this such a fantastic meeting! 🧬
Yesterday’s #MVIF 46 Pacific premiere was a real blast!
I had the pleasure of chairing the keynote session, featuring a fantastic talk and Q&A with Dr. Simon Roux (@simroux_virus).
Don’t miss the Atlantic replay today at 8:30 a.m. (New York time)!

Over the last years we have been digging further into the origin of #Eukaryotes. Beyond the expected Asgard and Alphaproteobacterial ancestries, we found other significant gene donors and a potential mediating role of viruses. @moigilbernabeu@MicroBioBits@Marcet45

What occurs to a trait groundplan when the trait isn't expressed anymore in the phenotype? We provided novel insight into the cryptic persistence of a lost trait molecular architecture, driven by gene pleiotropy on other traits and within their co-expression network!
Two days ago I defended my PhD dissertation: 'Viral Metagenomics and Phylogenomics for One Health'. Immensely grateful to my supportive colleagues and to my exceptional supervisors (@nsegata and @orotastabelli) for their guidance throughout this journey!
