I’ve gone full circle as well, but on a longer time scale. Back in middle school I ran a Minecraft server and I had a network of Mac minis colocated in data centers across the USA. Now I’m back at the same thing for remote iOS and Mac OS builds and Linux boxes locally for dev. Driving everything from my phone. What a time to be alive!
@austriker27 Yep, I have the same idea!
I want a 512gb Mac Studio once they’re out to run local models.
I currently have a Mac mini running all my dev work and builds so might laptop is lighter and can run from my phone
@austriker27 Depends on if you want multiple hardware boxes or not.
If you have a separate iOS build Mac then I’d go Linux and anything will do, unless you’re dabbling in local ai?
I do this now! I have a Mac mini running 24/7 connected on my tailscale network that I can open localhost dev links from my phone or laptop from anywhere.
I didn’t see why until a few weeks ago when I was maxing out CPU and memory on my MBP locally, and now I’m also able to keep a lighter laptop in my backpack, phone in pocket and have agents running remotely
