4 मई 2023 के उस दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण दिन, जबकि 250 से अधिक सशस्त्र मेइती पुरुषों और महिलाओं की भीड़ मां-बेटे की जोड़ी (श्रीमती गौजावुंग और गौलालसंग) को पीट रही थी, बहू नैन्सी (गौलालसंग की पत्नी) पर भी थोड़ी दूरी पर एक अन्य भीड़ द्वारा दर्दनाक हमला किया गया था, जो अब एक ऐसा दाग होगा जिससे वह कभी छुटकारा नहीं पा सकेगी।

सबसे पहले, वह मोन द्वारा घेर ली गई थी, जहां भीड़ में शामिल महिलाओं को पुरुषों को उसके साथ बलात्कार करने और उसे मार डालने के लिए उकसाते और चिल्लाते हुए सुना जा सकता था। उसके साथ बहुत बुरी तरह से मारपीट की गई और उसे सड़क पर मरने के लिए छोड़ दिया गया, यह एक चमत्कार था कि उसे समय पर ढूंढ लिया गया और इम्फाल में क्षेत्रीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (RIMS) अस्पताल के ICU में ले जाया गया। उसके सिर में कई चोटें आई थीं और उसके हाथों, कलाई और पसलियों में कई फ्रैक्चर थे। अगले दिनों में उसके परिवार को उसे इम्फाल से मणिपुर के बाहर एक अच्छी तरह से सुसज्जित अस्पताल में ले जाने के लिए एक अलग संघर्ष करना पड़ा, जो बिल्कुल भी आसान नहीं था, लेकिन जितना अधिक समय तक वह इम्फाल के अस्पताल में रहती, उसे निर्मम और खून की प्यासी भीड़ द्वारा खोज लिए जाने का जोखिम स्पष्ट होता है।

वह 4 मई 2023 को उस दिन हुए भयावह अनुभवों को बताने के लिए जीवित बची, और अभी भी न्याय मिलने और दोषियों को जवाबदेह ठहराए जाने का इंतजार कर रही है।
