Postdoc in the @HilliardLab, at the Queensland Brain Institute. My neuroscience path started with modelling human diseases in worms, how cool is that?!
Do not miss out on this amazing meeting! The deadline for abstract submission and registration is March 1st.

Bye bye bench. It’s been a roller coaster 😅 Glad that it ended well and I emptied these boxes feeling accomplished.
Will surely miss the @HilliardLab at the @QldBrainInst but I am excited to start my next chapter in research administration at the Child Health Research Centre 🎉
Our work from the @HilliardLab has been featured in the Editors’ Highlights webpage called “From molecules and cells to organisms”!
It feels great to have this research showcased as part of the 50 best papers published in the area.

Out now! We found a new molecule, OSP-1, that protects neurons from damage caused by oxidative stress. We show that OSP-1 reduces cell death by regulating autophagy, and can be an exciting target for future treatments of acute insults such as stroke.

Researchers from the Hilliard lab at UQ's Queensland Brain Institute have identified a molecule, OSP-1, that may protect brain cells from damage caused by oxidative stress and excessive autophagy — two processes linked to brain diseases like stroke.🧠
The team’s discovery could pave the way for innovative treatments to prevent neuronal damage.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting progress!

@EvaKaulich@HilliardLab Thank you so much for your amazing contribution during the forward genetic screen! Have fond memories of the long days spent in the microscope room with you 🙏
@marmol_dr@HilliardLab@QldBrainInst Thank you so much for your invaluable contribution to this work showing that this C. elegans molecule protects also mammalian cells!
Debuted my lab logo at my GRS cerebellum (CB) talk! She embodies the confidence, stability, beauty & control of CB Purkinje cells & African American women & I hope she inspires others in STEM! Next step, website and merch! *Watermark added for this post as adviced* @BlackInNeuro
TDP-43-mediated neurodegeneration is complex. We show that prior to disease onset in a mouse model of ALS/FTD, cortex neurons elicit a transient increase in protective chaperones that combat TDP-43 aggregation. Read it @NatureComms:

I'm so proud that this year, the 2 discoveries chosen by @QldBrainInst and @UQ_News for their societal impact, are papers where I'm the first author in both of them!! What an honour!Thank you very much!

“Science is an endurance sport. To produce that single illuminating experiment, a thousand non illuminating experiments have to be sent to the trash. It is a battle between nature and nerve.” The gene, by Siddhartha Mukherjee
I love Jen. But let’s be clear. CRISPR was in basic research labs since 2001… it took 11 years to figure out that it could be used as a universal molecular tool. And another 11 years to turn it into an approved therapy. So, from basic discovery to the clinic took >22 years…
Great way to wrap up this week: Getting the award for best post-doctoral publication with our paper on neuronal fusion, and co-direct the paper awarded with second best PhD sudent publication (to @ShanLongfield) at @QldBrainInst in 2023!!!
