Most people treat brand like frosting, a cosmetic layer you add right before launch to make things look polished.
But brand is the batter. It’s not decoration, it’s the foundation. It shows up in how you talk to customers, how your product feels, how your team makes decisions.
I’ve watched average products break through and scale because the brand made people feel something deeper, like they belonged to a club, a movement, a vibe they didn’t want to lose. They were buying identity, they were buying a warm/fuzzy feeling.
And in a world where AI can clone your UI, pricing, and even voice in minutes, the one thing it can’t replicate is emotional resonance. That’s where brand wins.
Brand is the key to every other moat you can think of.
They wear your t-shirt → now you have a network effect.
They talk about you in group chats → now you have distribution.
They trust you with their data → now you have a data moat.
They stay loyal even when a “better” tool shows up → now you’ve got switching cost.
You didn’t have to buy it.
You didn’t have to hack it.
You built something people actually care about.
That’s the real moat.
Not just brand. I hope that makes sense. It isn't really brand, its...
Gravity.
I like the contrast of this post against all the AI doom porn, gonna take all our jobs next month, etc that my feed has become. Don’t get me wrong I still like the AI doom porn too
One surprising thing I'm hearing from startup founders and eng managers hiring software engineers:
Posting jobs on LinkedIn is basically useless, because all they get is junk applications. Like hundreds of clearly not qualified inbounds / seemingly AI-generated profiles
We @a16z believe that AI will unbundle the BPO.
Companies spend hundreds of billions on outsourced work each year, but with AI there is a clear opportunity to bring that work back in-house.
I broke this down in my piece, "Unbundling the BPO," and dive deeper in this video below 👇
The 12 Apostles risked their lives to spread Christianity across the globe.
All but one were murdered for doing so — brutally.
Here's what happened to them, starting with Judas... (thread) 🧵
Morning
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Christian Apologist Wesley Huff @WesleyLHuff was recently on Joe Rogan's podcast @joeroganhq defending the faith as 1 Peter 3:15 commands us to do with "gentleness and respect."
