In the 11 years of devolution, the County of Machakos has had KSH 108 billion to serve the 1.5 million citizens of Machakos County.

During this period, less than 10,000 employees, who are less than 0.6% of the population, have eaten up 54% of this amount.

KSH 59 billion, in salaries alone.

By spending close to 20% more on average annually than the legal limit - the county is telling us what truly matters: that is, service to the political class.

In these 11 years, those in government have taken KSH 20 billion illegally, from money that should have been used to serve citizens.

Enough to build 10 Level 5 hospitals, and staff them for 10 years!

What reason, pray tell, does the county offer for the stalled projects?

Most common one is, "no money".

Second one is, " the contractor abandoned site".

That is devolution in Machakos County today.

The county government starts by consuming 54% of all revenue as salaries for the 0.6% in government.

KSH 10 billion, roughly 10%, is devoted to the County Assembly.

60 people have consumed KSH 10 billion in 11 years.

All by themselves.

Out of KSH 108 billion, KSH 800 million, less than 1%, is what was devoted to bursaries.

KSH 5.5 billion in wasteful travel and, people are sitting at home, because projects are stalled.

Stalled because apparently, the county has no money.
