@gpollara @Boghuma @EmoryInfectDis @Cortes_Penfield @limbsandlungs @LucyCKBell Thank you! Another interesting tidbit is that there was onward transmission to healthcare workers after exposure to the contaminated product during surgery or draining Tb wounds. We are working on a secondary transmission paper so stay tuned :).
@gpollara @Boghuma @EmoryInfectDis @Cortes_Penfield @limbsandlungs @LucyCKBell Yes we think it was probably a false negative which is not uncommon in persons with ESRD. But also shows the limitations of screening donors with IGRA tests which is why we strongly recommended testing of tissues when donors have risk factors for TB.
@gpollara @Boghuma @EmoryInfectDis @Cortes_Penfield @limbsandlungs @LucyCKBell We think that the donor died from disseminated tuberculosis that was not diagnosed. He had signs and symptoms as well as epidemiologic and clinical risk factors for TB.

Just one additional point - although I have been advocating a lot for distributed at home tests, my hospital life is as a medical director in a high complexity CLIA lab. I am not anti CLIA or qPCR. Just really see their downsides when used for wide scale public health testing.
