"They don't deal with the World Bank. They are not begging and there is no NGOs," said former Ethiopian diplomat and veteran communist Mohamed Hassan about Eritrea during an interview with Sovereign Media’s Ahmed Kaballo, in which the former broke down why Asmara became a prime target for Western economic and political quarantine following its independence in 1993.

Hassan revealed how the confrontation began immediately when the World Bank and IMF visited President Isaias Afwerki, demanding complete control over the country's national agenda.

However, when Asmara insisted upon writing its own national programme, western institutions labeled the leadership a "rebellion."

The hostility deepened due to Eritrea's commitment to radical self-reliance.

Hassan noted how Eritrea refuses to bow to debt traps or allow foreign NGOs to operate under the guise of civil society work (such as promoting micro-interests or carving up state sovereignty). As Hassan notes, if external actors want to help, they must support domestic national programmes.

In addition, Hassan cited Eritrea's national service (SAWA) to unite its diverse population across nine languages, Christians and Muslims alike. 

Yet, he added, while nations like Isr*el, Turkey, and Greece are praised or ignored for mandatory military and national service, Eritrea faced intense vilification for doing the exact same. 

Thus, Hassan argues, by refusing to submit to the "economic hitmen" of global finance and rejecting imperial oversight, Eritrea earned the wrath of Western powers determined to punish sovereign defiance in Africa.

I've said this repeatedly but as it is the central point of this whole genocide, it
bears repeating: the great majority of Israelis don't care that they are committing genocide. This is worse than celebrating it. I'll explain.

Celebrating genocide demands, at the very least, commitment. Those who celebrate (may the judged be their judges when they rot down in hell, to quote Shane MacGowan) do so openly and clearly. The great majority, those who don't care, think they can shrug it off. "The Hamas attack on October 7th was genocidal (it was not), so Israel is entitled to respond," they'll say, "but there is also a lot of justified criticism to be levied at Israel." Or they might say, the "liberal" Israelis, that this is not "their war". They are forced to fight a "messianic" war because the crazy fundamentalists have "hijacked" the country, but what can they do? This government decided and this is the cost of democracy. Come election time, we will kick the crazies out and order will be restored.

The problem is that the opposition also supports genocide. They will talk about peace (how do you make peace in the midst of an ongoing genocide? What does it even mean?), thinking aboub the need for peace as a reflective shield that returns everything to a state of normalcy.

This, I think, is the holy grail for Israelis. They want to argue about which former general leading which opposition party will protect them from relogious coercion and who will defend their financial investments in tech startups. They want to sit in cafes, fly abroad. They don't care about the genocide.

This is worse than celebrating because not caring allows the genocide to continue without end or purpose. It demonstrates a fully dehumanized society. Such dehumanization is a never-ending funnel of evil into the world. Anything and everything goes, all the time. Not caring deletes any horizon. There is no rationale but death. The Palestinians are the victims of this lethal whirlwind. That makes Israelis care even less. After all, didn't the Palestinians start this whole thing? Haven't they refused every olive branch offered to them? What business of ours is it to help them?

This eats away at a society's core. Israeli society's core has been devoured. It is empty. When I am asked why Israelis don't object to the genocide I cannot simply say that they are murderers. They murder with indifference, with a ruthless denial of reality in a pursuit of normalcy that never existed. Israel was always based on the big lie that there are no actual Palestinians. This lie is now exploding. Israelis, perhaps as a
defense mechanism, just don't care.

The British press tells the world that high tech drones are being made in the U.K. and being supplied to Ukraine from where they are fired into Russia. Some of these new drones are getting through Russian air defences and striking targets inside Russia. Russia says that this must stop or there will be consequences. Our new PM says that Russia can get lost and that the drone supply to Ukraine will continue. Given the lamentable state of the British armed forces - to say nothing of our bankrupt economy - this policy of provoking Russia into war with the U.K. is nothing short of lunacy. There is no public foreign policy debate. There are no dissenting voices in the House of Commons. Unless we open proper diplomatic relations with Moscow which will involve a change of the current U.K. policy, this will end badly for the U.K. I am 76. I do not care for myself but I care for my children and grandchildren.

And tell me this: how do you sleep at night?
