i am fully aware that arguing with people on twitter is approximately as productive as shitting into my hands and clapping.
unfortunately, i am also a writer, and apparently my fatal character flaw is being physically incapable of witnessing an atrocious take about creative labour without composing a strongly worded rebuttal.
anyway, day two of fighting for my life in the gay fanfiction trenches.
@Usahime_sama yes. yes they are. i refuse to spend 100,000 words psychologically dismantling men who aren't at least offensively attractive.
unfortunately they're also emotionally constipated and have the collective communication skills of a damp sock.
today's writing goals:
finish the chapter
do not introduce another character
do not invent another tragic backstory
stop giving everyone emotional support swords
update: there is a new character. he has a sword. his mother is dead.
@Usahime_sama i have spent more time on this app in two days than i have in the previous six months combined. my fictional men are unattended. one of them might accidentally develop healthy coping mechanisms.
you are replying directly to me while invoking statements i have never made, and i will not have those statements attributed to me.
please do not associate me with that comparison again.
and also
like if you aren't going to engage meaningfully with the people who you're claiming to respect and instead just copy pasting the same thing to all of us and invoking what someone completely irrelevant to me did as a reason to be against all authors who don't want their works redistributed then you aren't really interested in listening to us you're interested in taking the most extreme takes and using it to shut down an argument no one here was making
also "there's going to be a huge drop in reader interaction when ao3 is back thanks to people like this"
is absolutely a take trying to shut authors up so we just do whatever readers want for fear of them not engaging
I merely pointed out that this is a community, engage or don't but don't use treating authors like people as something to take away if we do something you don't like
@SierraLyn91@babydianxia I’m sorry but is this for me because I have nowhere implied rape is akin to fics being reshared???
Like be so fr if you’re gonna screenshot a response please at least make the take match what I said
@cam09803873@sapphyreblayze i have voluntarily written 100,000 words about fictional men experiencing emotional devastation and somehow still lack the stamina to read a stranger's twitter manifesto.
Oh absolutely, but I think there's a pervasive culture amongst authors (as someone in the same spaces as published authors) that fanfic is somehow less creative or deserving of respect. So when an author comes into a space and just asks me the same question 67 times without engaging with my responses I get annoyed because it's the attitude I see from authors getting a superiority complex about fic writers being less talented.
@MinYoongiAgenda@MooseManGarf@sapphyreblayze I will admit I get frustrated at people not in fandom spaces inserting themselves into this mess as an excuse to shit on fic writers. That's what got my back up with this specific author, but it is absolutely not how I view all creators of OG work.
@MinYoongiAgenda@MooseManGarf@sapphyreblayze Facts. I love writing fanfic. I have original fics and published work. I believe all should be treated with equal respect and kindness, and yet it's sadly devolved into something completely contradictory to what fandom is.
I get this but this author was being deliberately hateful towards fanfics.
I am also a published author, I know what it means to have original content in the world. I think understanding that fanfiction wouldn't exist without original creations is important.
I also think it's important to treat each other with respect and engage on a good faith basis, which that author did not do.
