I use Cursor because of the superior product experience. This advantage is part of a larger play.
Unlike Anthropic, Cursor isn't betting on AI coders being the future.
Instead, humans stay in the driver's seat. Cursor's betting that for AI coding to work at scale, we need better products that equip developers with more control, not less.
The whole product development stack will innovate in the next 2 years. Cursor is aggressively pursuing vertical integration.
The Automation demo shows how Cursor connects the steps from a PagerDuty incident to the bug patch. Cursor's design mode replaces Figma / Webflow. Their acquisition of Graphite shows AI won't make code review obsolete. Rather, we need better tools to scale code review to handle AI coding.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cursor was designing a new Github, looking to buy a Vercel, or reinventing parts of Linear / Pylon / PagerDuty / Datadog / etc.
Cursor "plugins" looks like an experimental stepping stone towards owning the entire stack (Pylon / Datadog / Pagerduty / Posthog --> Linear --> Figma --> Cursor --> CI/CD + QA --> Vercel).
Intelligence doesn't replace humans, it forces us to use different products to scale ourselves further.
We saw something similar in self-driving. Even after a decade of RL research, Waymo is still not fully autonomous. The company uses tele-operators with a ratio of ~ 1 driver : 3 cars.
Scalable self-driving requires us to build better tools to allow teleoperators to scale to 1 driver : 30 cars and beyond (better AI models will help too along the way).
Seems like AI coding is very much in the early days...

My favorite AI coding challenge: build a web app using Cursor. The catch is, you're is fully blindfolded (literally). Cursor reads aloud its output.
So you never see any code; instead, you can only hear it through the Cursor audio output. This forces you to become a more efficient coder in English
Coding in this blind environment forces you to adopt different coding workflows and practices. The most creative devs will build new tools + skills before starting. I'm convinced those new coding workflows is what the future IDE will build for.
