The Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church in Vladimir stands on the site of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky’s court. The first church appeared here in 1108–1116, and in 1164 the prince rebuilt it in white stone. After the great fire of 1778 it was reconstructed - this is the look we see today. Closed in 1937 and turned into a warehouse, it was returned to the faithful only in 1993. Now, together with St. Nicholas Church and the chapel marking 2000 years of Christianity, it forms a charming ensemble right in the heart of the city. ⛪

An ordinary walk through the centre of Vladimir… “Блинчики” - a pancakes house … Expanses…
It is the quiet art of seeing…

Continuing the walk through the centre of Vladimir…
Beside the white church wall a lace figure of wire stands among the roses, umbrella open, watering can in hand.
She waters nothing and everything at once.
Pigeons watch from the cornice.
This is not merely a sculpture.
It is the quiet art of seeing tenderness placed gently into stone and summer in Vladimir

A walk through the centre of Vladimir…
People move the way summer clouds do - unhurried, belonging.
It is the quiet art of seeing time still breathing between the stones…

A walk around the Demetrius Cathedral in Vladimir…
Six hundred carvings cover the white stone - lions that smile, griffins, King David with a gusli, Alexander rising on mythical wings.
Christian saints stand beside ancient heroes.
This is not merely a church.
It is a silent stone book that opens only to those who look slowly

Andrey Bogolyubsky stood here in Vladimir in 1169.
His armies had taken Kiev, yet he turned away.
He chose this place - these fields, this river, this light - as the new heart of Rus.
The capital was no longer a city one conquered.
It was a way of looking

An ordinary walk through the white-stone silence of Vladimir…
Two foundations rest in the same soil - 990 and 1108.
One prince baptised a people, another raised a fortress.
The hillside holds both dates the way light holds two shadows.
This is not merely a city.
It is the quiet art of seeing time layered upon time

An ordinary walk across the expanses of the Vladimir-Suzdal land…
The fields stretch unhurried, belonging only to the light and the centuries.
Yet the horizon holds the sky so carefully, the space breathes so precisely, that the everyday becomes something else entirely.
Wild grasses lean in the foreground, a sea of yellow rape stretches unhurried to the horizon, and the heavy summer sky holds the light so carefully that the everyday becomes something else entirely.
This is not merely landscape.
It is the quiet art of seeing
